An announcement from Wrexham FC

Just been listening this morning to this story and here is The Times take on it this morning.

Wrexham is a fan run club and all but 31 of the 2000 voted for the Hollywood investment from Reynolds. It is emerging that a possible reason is there is a tie in with Amazon for a documentary series. That is “pick“ a random low Club and and create a story, follow through the growth . Bit like Salford’s story on the BBC.

Interesting timing when many Clubs face financial armeggedon.

Deadpool becomes Welshpool.

That true Gaz?

All very strange this. Not sure how it sits with me, if I was a Wrexham fan, seeing my club become a play thing.

Hartlepool’s take on their take over that was failed:

News broke earlier today of a ‘substantial bid’ made by an unnamed consortium keen to take charge at Hartlepool United, though officials at The Vic are yet to comment.

The Mail understands the group has links to America but no further details have yet emerged of the individuals involved.

Jeff Stellings Response:

We were approached by a consortium this summer who wanted to buy us out, and came offering a fortune," Stelling admitted. "It transpired that one of them had just spent a few years in prison for fraud... so we said 'thank you very much, no thanks, on your bike'.

"Those people will go to other clubs and try it on in exactly the same way. I've got a friend in the game who has a pretty good idea of who's kosher and who's not.

"I know he's been on the phone to a couple of clubs in the past warning them about the people that they were negotiating with.

"All you can do is offer advice, you can't stop them because sometimes the situation is so extreme that you're going under unless you take the offer."

It was confirmed by the reporter at Hartlepool that the take over was in fact Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

The vast majority of clubs in this country are now just someone’s plaything. Our isn't, it’s in fact a massive headache and source of stress for our chairman because he is from the area, supports the club and doesn’t want it to ever go under again. Doesn’t stop a lot of our fans wanting the plaything option though.

I like to think Wrexham was chosen because of that tweet. It makes for a better story than them peddling around numerous clubs before finding one that agreed.

Mind you most lower league clubs would snap their hands off now ironically.

Where do you get this from? A lot? I can think of a couple of posters on here who have said that and a similar number on other boards. The vast majority want Gibson in charge. A few, like me, have, in the past, suggested he would benefit from an experienced ‘football man’ to run operations on his behalf like a Kenyon or a Levy type appointment. That is not a Director of Football for the record. However, GIbson has appointed a proper experienced manager with a real back catalogue. I applaud him for doing what I and several other board members have called for for years. He has seemingly allowed him to have a bigger say in recruitment than other managers or head coaches have had. I applaud him for that. It is a shame it is at the point of no money rather than at the point of promotion or even relegation that this has happened mind.

Warnock would have delivered promotion in one season had he been appointed in 2017 in my opinion, however we are where we are and I am grateful Gibson made the decision he did in 2020. Foreign ownership is not the answer lots of clubs show that to be the case, it is shrewd and clever management coupled with intelligent appointments and smart recruitment that creates success. Gibson has proved he can do it, I hope he has found his mojo again. Appointing Warnock was a bright move, lets support what we have and hope everyone working within the club currently can make enough difference to eventually get us back to where many of us feel we would like to be. We have some hope again, for now I’ll take that.

Wrexham have always offered a cheap route to playing a big-name in a European competition (not sure if that still applies).

Wow, that's such a bizarre acquisition if it goes ahead!
Ryan Reynolds recently launched his own mobile phone service provider aswell, well invested heavily in one anyways. Mint Mobile.

Not as crazy as it seems, also owns a gin company too.

They weren’t chosen because of the tweet, there weren’t even first choice by the looks of

they probably got the deal through and they did a search for his name and Wrexham to find any linked tweets

Possibly but don’t know that with any certainty. Nobody but they do - could be any reason . We will find out very soon. He is going to explain apparently later this week.
