America will pay the price

Looks like they are not taking it anywhere near serious enough. I know we have been slow off the mark but their numbers have started to double and lots of states are just carrying on with life as normal.

Trump has stated he wont be ordering lockdowns and just advisory travel restrictions in New York.

Quite a few people taking the 'its just a flu bro' approach on social media which is not a good sign.

I think the worst is yet to come for us but i think USA are going to have some astronomical casualties unfortunately.

I have been impressed with Cuomo as a communicator, but his justifications for continuing business meetings was nonsense. Saying a businessman who might need to fly to Chicago for a meeting to justify not upping social isolation was nonsense.

By head of population it's about half the UK and 5% of Italy. But there are some states harder hit them others. New York State is half of Italy.

State Governors are thankfully calling the shots on the ground, not Trump. Some States are taking firmer action than others.

That's part of the problem that will bite the US though gs.
Without a national plan there are always going to be avenues of infection as we are hearing with the clampdown on residents of New York who are being isolated for 14 days after they've travelled elsewhere.
Simply concentrating on the hotspots isn't going to stop the spread because in 'low risk' states, even one person infected could set off a chain of infection that will spread and create large numbers of cases.

it’s laughable that he’s targeting April for things to get back to normal - I believe the states will have on of the most deadly and longest cases due to their shoddy approach.

It’s the sense of ‘nationalism’ that comes to the fore here isn’t it?
US - ‘we expect to be working - its what we do’
UK - ‘the British spirit will help us beat this’
That kind of stuff just disarms people from doing the sensible things advised by the medics.

I presume other countries have their version of xenophobia at these times too.

That and the fact that there is fcuk all in the way of social care policy. Trump is pushing that line and his other soundbites because most of his hotels and golf courses have been shutdown and he's losing money.

Th hardest hit will be the major cities, typically not Trump supporting areas - the vast farmlands will be easier to self isolate. It will be interesting though as this plays out. Trump is gambling and if it goes wrong he's a gonner at the ballot box.

The problem for the Dems is that they cant really electioneer whereas Trump has a pulpit for his preachings on a daily basis.
If, as seems more likely, Trump will insist on having his signature on every cheque that goes out to American citizens then that could be a powerful election tool for him. It'll be a case of him being able to resist his impulses to be the 'king', cater to the desires of some of the right to prioritise the economy over the public wellbeing and balance that with following the advice of the experts. If he can weigh those three things to his own advantage then he could well maintain enough grass-roots support to get a second term.

Not just April though Easter based on nothing at all apart from the fact it’s Easter.

Which is why I hope international travel is restricted

I heard something yesterday about packed churches in Russia.... but how they were being told that you couldn't catch a disease like that in a church (house of God and all that). Blimey. :(:(

They're still in the containment phase so the infection chain is being traced. Hopefully we get back to containment when numbers fall low enough.
