Allowing upload of .doc (Word files) as attachments?

I have just spotted that Microsoft Office type files cannot be loaded as attachments. For example .doc files.

Is this for reasons of security? If not is it something that can be considered as a possible improvement soon?

I see. Original idea was that this would be a gradual process.

.doc’s can have malicious code inserted into them so that’s probably why

you dont need to bother with all this - the Way Back When machine has over 600 snapshots of FMTTM over the years.

Just convert .doc files to .pdf before posting. Simple really.

Ta. Sorted. Copy the thread into a Word document. Microsoft print to PDF from Word - had to split the thread into 2 PDF parts as each file has to be less than 1MB. See the attached.

Wow. where did that come from? Never seen that before.

A big question is whether an archive is easily searchable. For example how would you find the 8 dart finish thread?

I posted that site plus another solution on FMTTM this morning when you asked on there! The other solution looks much better than converted word documents as well.

The internet archive has been around for years . It doesn’t get absolutely every site but it gets most

Are the back when machine archives easily searchable? Particularly if the site itself did not have a search facility.

No, you’d need to know what you’re looking for but given how many tens of thousands of threads there are archiving posts manually will be a burden. Just find the posts you want on google and put that url into the way back machine

When people say "What about the XXX thread" I would want it to be able to be revisited easily.

My guess is that the number of threads would be in the tens or hundreds. Not the 1000s. Most of it would not be worth saving. As it was good at the time but of no real long term significance.
