I’m watching the 100 on bbc 2 now and it really is a mystery how this lad doesn’t play for England. I know he’s had his issues but so did stokes and look at him now.

He’s on fire again

I believe he twice tested positive for drugs? I mean once you'd 'learn' yet twice is beyond stupid.

It cost him a place in the WC wining side. That said it appeared it was Morgan that wasn't having any of bringing him back.

So now under Butler and a new coach? Probably the best chance he's had. I couldn't care less about his past if he blazes us to a T20 WC win. Especially as Roy is bang out of form.

Watched a documentary on the WC winning team.
Morgan said the squad voted to not have him in the squad at a meeting. They thought his problems would be too distracting.

that’s fair enough, but it was over 3 years ago now.

He’s a 33 year old bloke. Been playing franchises all around the world with no more problems

It seemed “personal” between Morgan and Hales… which always seemed a bit petty and unprofessional from the captain’s point of view IMO
It wasn’t petty at all, Morgan felt let down by Hales twice. The easy option would have been to keep him in the team as he was possibly the best opening batter in white ball cricket but Morgan stuck to his principles and believed even if it meant the team was weaker it would send out the wrong message if he allowed Hales back in the team and I for one applaud that.

Now it’s a new regime who knows, Hales form means he deserves a place in the England team, but what’s to say he won’t let his team mates down again

Not exactly short of top order options either. Buttler Bairstow Malan Stokes Livingston, Brook etc without Hales and Roy, who is out of form.

Not too many of those names would go into a forthcoming white ball tournament with any sort of form under their belts.

People who have got close to Hales over the last decade who then have ended up in trouble include Stokes on a night out in Bristol and Ballance who he was close with in England dressing room (though who influenced who is open to debate). His girlfriend of the time dumped him on a cricket tour after finding out what he had been upto in Barbados.

However the way he covered up his second drugs offence from his teammates (with ECB's help) and allowed the Sun to break the story on the eve of the world cup was the final straw for most of the England players. What angered them wasn't specifically that he had been tested positive again but that the story completely disrupted the run up to the tournament as they were hit with questions that they hadn't been prepared for.

ECB won't stop him playing for England but there are still a lot of players who felt very let down by him before World Cup and that wouldn't be good for team morale.

Thanks for that I knew there were issues but I couldn’t remember the details.

It’s a shame though as his talent would transform out t20 squad esp. but as you say at what cost.
