I think that's called negotiating. You'd just pay whatever the selling club wants would you?
If Larsen was worth £10m and we insisted on paying £9m but someone else came in and bought him for £10m then he was worth £10m and we were wrong. You can only negotiate the price down if you have leverage. We wanted a player, they didn't want to sell for less than he was worth, they got their £10m, we get to watch Akpom and wonder what could have been.

Good point. Can't believe we didn't just whack another million or two on our offer for all the other players we've lost out on price to guarantee promotion. Dead easy with someone else's money isn't it?

I think the player would rather move to the Spanish top league rather than the English second div so showing our hand probably wouldn’t help other potential deals

To be fair we may have offered 9m (paper talk) but it may of been 5m upfront plus add on and Groningen might have wanted more, either way we knew nothing of him till he was mentioned so no love lost let it go, we move on!

We have brought in plenty of players this month and if we get no one else so be it we go with what we have! when wilder took over we never looked like making the play offs with the squad we had yet we marginally missed out.

The club has improved the first team squad IMO, still could do with adding more but its a working progress, keep calm at let the club build, nothing happens over night!
