Alan Nixon says.

I'd like to think we have too much quality for a relegation fight, that's despite the glaring issues with our squad. 14th place for us
How many times have we seen that with clubs? Injuries, fitness and players coming to the end of their contracts. Potentially BIG trouble!

Harsh on Woodgate and I think Southgate was better than he got credit for
Woodgates record was terrible, given an impossible task to be fair.

Southgate, I tend to agree, he was nowhere near as bad as some would like to paint him. Staying up for 2 seasons while reducing costs shouldn't be sniffed at. Felt for him at the end, the stress was really telling on him, he looked unwell.

Potentially, but also potential for some young hunrgy players to make there place in the sport. Coburn, Forss and Hoppe all have an opoortunity. Fry isn't going to down tools, Lenihan and Clarke have to show their abilities more consistently. Just need a bit more in CM, that's the january transfer window number one puzzle to solve.

It’s from now until the window we need to come up with the magic solution.

Crooks—Howson—Mowett or Dijksteel—McNair—Hackney or Fletcher—Luongo—McGree

i think you're right. just slightly unnerving to see us where we are currently 😬
It is, the confidence has been absolutely drained from the squad, but we've seen some of these lads put in good performances before, we know with a bit of confidence they can string a run to get into midtable, don't think we've got enough to claw back beyond that. I've not ironed my brown pants ready for May yet, but I've checked they're still in the bottom of the draw just in case.

It’s a mammoth task! Beyond mid table is automatic promotion form.

It was extremely tough on Gareth, I think Gibson sacking him was one of the toughest decisions he’s made. I think he would have taken us back up given the chance, same with Karanka, imagine if he’d been given the money monk was.

We had just been to the UEFA Cup final when he took over. Expectations were to get back in to Europe, we were still looking up when we appointed him. Going from best ever finish then UEFA final to relegated within 3 years was catastrophic. We still haven't recovered.

We've had more luck with inexperienced managers since I started watching in 1964. They've tended to be here longer too.
Yeah , i like a rookie personally. The good thing about not knowing what your getting is they could be the next best manager . Not many English managers are wining anything in my life time

There is some truth to this however you have to take into account the cost cutting that went on and put it into context of the time that it happened.

Maybe Southgate was the right man at the wrong time. He's showed some ability as a manger since he left us.

It doesn't matter who we appoint, avoiding relegation ready for another championship plod is all that matters.

Has he ???

He’s inherited arguably the best crop of players we've we had in a generation and he’s formed a decent unit with questionable results.

But no signs yet he could manage again. As he has he players on tap that’s not the same as management.

Sven and Capello also had an equally talented crop and didn't get as far in tournaments despite being top drawer managers. I'm not for a minute suggesting that Southgate is the best manager ever but he's obviously not a total duck egg

Southgate got knocked out by the 1st decent team they played. Just lucky that was in the Semis and Final. Sven and Capello did exactly the same.
