Akpom or Watmore

I think Akpom has looked alright in the last couple of games, not sure what else he could have done, for what he is there to do. Had we just signed him for 3m I think I'd be happy. Certainly looks like he suits the current style a lot more than the previous managers.

He's not a goalscorer though (as in he won't get you 1 in 2, but may be able to get 1 in 3 in this side), and never has been, but neither is Watmore.

We seem to play better when he is on the pitch, he links in and out with the midfield quite well, and having him paired with a goalscorer could be a good option, the problem is the latter bit. Coburn will get more goals than Watmore and Akpom, but doesn't have as much to the rest of his game. Suppose we need players to tick all the boxes to improve league position.

I suppose what his mini resurgence has done has meant we now probably don't need another two strikers, we just need one good one, with Forss, Watmore, Akpom and Coburn as backup. We're going to need whoever comes in to hit the ground running mind, which is a risk. I think we would be still hoping for two in and one out, and my choice for the one out would probably be selling Watmore or Coburn out on loan till Jan, to a team where he will definitely play.
We need a good CM more than we need two strikers mind, but if we can get two strikers and two CM's then even better.

Chuba is holding the ball up well and it is sticking which allows Mcgree to get on the ball more - Mcgree has some vision and that reverse pass for Giles was sublime.
Akpom should have buried that header mind.

From what Wilder said in the post match presser I think it was the club’s decision, rather than Wilders to keep him from the squad. When asked about his future he said he is part of the group until I am told otherwise. Hopefully Akpom stays for me.

yeah, that was an odd comment. He will be on a good wage so maybe he was told to get him off the wage bill if he wasn't going to be first choice.

Be interesting where we go striker wise now. If Akpom is staying, that means it would be forss, hoppe, akpom and probably one expensive one if we can get them (potentially Larson). Back up option could he Muniz if Fulham get another top striker in. If everything falls away, could be a risk if we are relying on forss, hoppe and akpom as our main strikers. Watmore seems off form and not sure if we have seen the best of him. He needs to get his form back fast if he is going to play a part this season. Surprised he started against QPR.

If this is the outcome of this transfer window then there is no way we are getting promoted. We'll be exactly where we were last season, looking up to the playoffs. I expected Wilder and the recruitment team to put a squad together so making the playoffs is a bad result.

Yes, we also need some more midfielders but we have known for ages that it is upfront where we are particularly weak and to go from talk on here last week of Akpom & Watmore going as well as Coburn going out on loan to having the 3 of them in the squad would be extremely disappointing because we know they aren't good enough.

I don't think it will do Akpom any good if he's regarded as a stop gap until we sign some obscure foreign striker. Hopefully he will be put at the centre of things as long as we have so few options.

It depends, I'm thinking more along the line that we buy someone very good, rather than someone ok, and someone average. As in I think Akpom could do the job of the ok/ average guy, so should free up money for someone very good.

If we just buy someone ok and keep what we have then it would be scraping playoffs at best.

Up front is certainly the priority, we could maybe scrape through if we got that very good forward in, and just bought a backup CM, and tried to ride our luck, but it's far from ideal.

Like I've said though (mainly on the Gyokeres thread), to get top two we would need a very good striker, plus another upgrade on Watmore/ Akpom/ Coburn, I'll leave Forss out of that as I've not seen enough of him. We would also need another good CM backup, and for Crooks to repeat last year, and the goals, but without the bookings, and we also need McGree to fill the big hole left by Tav.

Forss, (new signing), Akpom and Coburn will be our 4 IMO.
I can see Watmore leaving when he realises he's fighting for 3rd choice with Akpom and CW will more than likely choose to get some game time in Coburns legs and look to the future with him at times.

If he ends up being what they wanted McGoldrick to be in terms of someone who has a first touch and lets us get up the field instead of losing the ball immediately then great.

However I'm not convinced and think it's just a matter of our ability to get deals done dwindling so he's being marketed as being good enough again.

I've seen enough of him across his career to know a side with Chuba Akpom getting regular gametime is not getting automatically promoted.

That doesn't mean he can't play his part in a system when he's 1/4 men if the others are good quality.

I'm going to predict now that Hoppe will be weak as **** for a big lad and look out of his depth.

I'd still be hoping for Muniz + one other and keeping Watmore. I think his movement and drive in the latter part of games has been shown to be effective and we'll need variation in what our forwards do in what is looking like a slightly predictable approach to games from us these days.

2 mids
3 strikers including Hoppe
LCB.

Let's go!

That’s no where near enough as we know the new signing is Hoppe. The way I am seeing things is Coburn will hopefully be loaned at end of window. Watmore will be thanked for his effort and moved on. And we will have Forss, Akpom, Hoppe and push for 2 more strikers between now and end of window.

We had 3 bids in for Premiership strikers which remain on the table
Forss is here Muniz and Armstrong being the others I would think.

I would say Muniz seems likely and then we will either go back in for Larsen or maybe another European target for a similar fee.

We won’t be signing Armstrong. He is starting for them as things stand they prefer to let Che Adams leave apparently.

I forgot about Hoppe, my mistake.
Forss, Hoppe, (Larsen, Gyokeres, Muniz or whoever), Akpom and Coburn. That's our 5 and Coburn would probably be loaned out in that case and we'll keep Akpom, plus Kavanagh and Finch as reserves and let Watmore leave, back to Sunderland or somewhere.

We may get 2 new strikers a Larsen and another and let Akpom go aswell... Leaving Forss, Hoppe, New1, New2 plus the kids...but i think CW will leave a bit in the kitty til January.

Armstrong isn't coming, he started for them against Spurs and they're trying to sell Che Adams, so no way does Armstrong go from starter, to leaving on loan to us in a couple of weeks.

I still reckon we will get Hoppe and 2 more on top of that with Coburn leaving on loan and Watmore either leaving permanently or season long loan.

Forss
Akpom
Hoppe
Muniz loan ( seems likely)
European striker for a fairly large fee

Hasn't it just been confirmed Coburn is out for two months?

Surely for someone who rotates strikers as much as Wilder that would mean we need an extra one? He had already made comments about Coburn being loaned out.

I suppose it will depend on incomings, I would love to know what is going on with Muniz.
