Akpom and Hackney

Lot's of really good performances today but Hackney and Akpom did some sublime things.

It sounds strange to say but Akpom looks a class above the Championship - a man against boys. He oozes quality and has the rarest of attributes, the ability to play the game at a different speed than everyone around him. No matter where he receives the ball, he always looks like he has time. In that respect, he reminds me of Mark Viduka. He can undoubtedly play in the Premier League and who would have thought that 6 months ago? A pleasure to watch.

Hackney - wow. He was exquisite today on the ball. He dictated the game with his short passing and it was beautiful. He is a diamond.

If I was Everton - I would be on the phone and offering us something we could not refuse for akpom.

I think he would be ideal for a relegation threatened prem team - on form - quick and aggressive (so no real worry about adapting). Even if he may not be prem class long term - I think he would help.

I obviously don't want this to happen!

I seriously can't think of a recent player for us who's transformed the way Akpom has.

Lets be honest, all us fans had written him off, felt like another bad signing, kind of Aliadière esq, you want him to succeed but know he's just not cutting it. Then Akpom shows real promise earlier in the season, gets injured and comes back even better. Some of his touches/control are unreal.

Hope we can hang onto him or he has loyalty to us as the club who brought the best out in him.

I'm interested in how long it'll take Warnock to take credit for Akpom. The more he scores, the harder it'll be to resist.

He'll be asked about him at some point I'm sure. I somehow doubt he'll recall the tale of when he blamed the recruitment department for the signing and how he swore he'd not listen to their recommendation ever again without seeing the player first hand.

That wasn't Akpom was it? He said he was his number 1 target. The comment was about some defender he saw once upon a time.

Chuba has always had the talent, but the way he's applied himself in the circumstances is what makes him stick out for me. So easy to just let his career fade, but he's stuck at it and he is proving a genuine PL quality.

He was brilliant again. He played Forss in behind with a couple of outrageous passes during the 1st half.

I can’t remember a transformation like Akpom’s ever, anywhere, never mind just at Boro! Seems like such a good guy too, which makes it all the better! The way he manages to take the ball and turn with several players on him, and escape them so effortlessly, so frequently, is a joy to watch.

Every week now he's the best player on the pitch, one of those players that stands out from the rest, not just his goals, but rather his build up play as you say.

He’s found a happy place after years of being a spare part player in England he’s now at a club the values him and he has a manager that truly truly believes in him
And that confidence is flowing through him.

It’s not a shock though as he was tipped as a kid for the very top in fact he was tipped to be England’s main striker when he was coming through the ranks at Arsenal.

Fantastic to see and im made up for him.

The last player to do a Lazarus like reinvention of his Boro career was surely Zenden? And even then Zenden was playing wide left regularly, he was poor, but moved to CM and the rest is history.

Akpom had no future, no squad number, and bet we would have taken a huge loss just to get him off the books. Now.......😳😳

He was hugely rated as a youngster at Arsenal, but as with dozens of "next best things" through various bad loans, bad management etc he fell off the cliff. Taken a few years, but playing with confidence in a system that suits him.....with a manager that is 100% behind him......the transformation has been nothing short of sensational.

Seems a level headed fella, so hopefully has his head switched on and realises a big money move anytime soon could set him back 3 seasons - and moving forward his best bet is to stick with Boro in what is - fingers crossed - going to be an exciting period in the clubs history.👍
