airport queues

Flew from Newcastle. Two hour from leaving Redcar to sitting in the bar in airport.. That included diversion due to A1M being closed and parking car up at airport. Doddle.
Flew 3 weeks ago from Newcastle. Queues were not too bad although chaos on air side trying to get a seat. Word of warning Bar11 I think it’s called. Pint of Stella and large g@t ….£17 70.!! Robbing sods,! Order at table and drinks are delivered so it’s easy not to notice the price. However not after the first drink,!

FFS… And people wonder why the queues are so big 😂😂

Imagine what the doctors waiting room would be like if everyone turned up 5 hours before their appointment
That's a big part of the problem. The couple before me at LBA had turned up 4 hours early. So basically putting those 3 hours early even further down the line.
Queue management & info is the problem, as much as the lack of staff

There must be an automated solution to this though? Could quite easily use smart CCTV to analyse the volume and speed of the queue and then advise people of the optimal time to start queueing?

The absence of such a system is probably the reason why ppl take it into their own hands and arrive super early.

The bag drop point is valid, Arlanda in Stockholm yesterday had the biggest queues for check in I've ever seen. Easily over 2 hours. That said, it's "vacation week" in Sweden so not unsurprising perhaps.

Does make me laugh. Fast track to get on the bus 1st. Followed by the cattle class who get pole position at the doors to get off 1st and on the jet before the fast trackers.
Think I'd rather pay a few quid to get through security within 5 minutes, when travelling with 2 young children, than stand in a huge queue which can be up to 2 hours long.

Each to their own.

It’s cost me £6 each for 4 fast passes -£6 - the price of a pint at the airport. Spend £6 for peace of mind or have a pint? Shouldn’t have to I know but no brainier for me and especially for those who have a young family.

Totally agree.

I lost count of the amount of people who watched as we went through fast track and mumbled 'wish we done that' 'we'll have to do that next time' etc.

When you're travelling with 2 young kids, then waiting in a queue for over 1 hour would be a nightmare.

£6 each to avoid all that? Definitely, sign me up every time.

Check boarding passes before entering security queue, if your flight isn’t within 2 hours, please take a seat in the check in area.

a lot of airports you have to scan your pass to enter security anyway, so just refuse entry if your flight departure is more than 2 hours away .

I suppose a problem with that is the businesses airside rely on people having lots of time to spare once through security but I seem to recall a lot Greek islands don't let you through security until 2 hours before your flight time.

I've just paid for the fast track... there's 22 flights in 30 minutes first thing on the Sunday morning.
It's going to be heaving.

Fly from Gatwick at 8am on Saturday. Staying in a hotel overnight and plan to be at the terminal at 5. Have paid for fast track (£5) each as wife is pregnant and we have a 3 year old so makes sense. Expecting it to be busy So hopefully the fast track will be worth it.

I'm flying from LBA in August, just paid for fast track as others have said, purely for peace of mind, cost me a tenner, well worth it for me.

Flying from Doncaster on Saturday at 7AM, anyone flew from there recently and know what the queues are like? Planning on getting there for 4AM - too early?
Arrived just before 4am. Took 50 mins to get through check in then another 20 mins through security etc. First pint just after 5am.

At Gatwick now. 1 hour 15 mins from car drop off to sitting down in departures. Fast track security was definitely worth £5 per person.

Or 1 pass and 3 pints while you wait for the family to get through 🙂

Got to Stansted at 3:20, bag drop was a 50 minute queue to check passport, boarding card and put the ticket on the case. We then had to go to another section to queue up for another 20 minutes to deposit our cases onto the belts. Fast track security was well worth £10...I'd strongly advise it as the queue for security was immense
