Adam Clayton

Aww Barnsy, really? Several other posters seem to have understood it was nothing more than a light hearted comment referencing the head scarf. I am sorry that you have taken offence to the post, I didn’t realise you were so delicate

I appreciate you seem to have a personal dislike of me, you have made that very clear many times over the years with your posts. Thats fine, I accept my posts will not always please everyone, as I am sure yours may not either, but thats life as they say, I accept that. It was clearly not meant to offend or disrespect Adam and his lovely wife, but I am sure you are educated reasonably well enough to understand that. It may be an idea for you to use the ignore button, as I would hate for you to take offence at anything you may see posted from me in future, it’s for the best. I am a little surprised that as you found it so offensive, distasteful or pitiful was it, that you chose to repost it mind, but it remains there for all to see with your comment anyway.

As a gesture of goodwill toward you, i have edit the original post as my intentions were honourable and not meant to offend anyone, Including yourself, and least of all a player whom I always held in such high esteem and always defended on here when he got pelters from many fans. Toodle pip Barnsy old bean (y)

I'm sure he'll be delighted that you hold him in such high esteem and that you have stood up for him.

Or, are those comments just a sweetener in case he reads your distasteful post aimed at his young child?

No not at all feel free to check back. You are a funny one, Barnsy, but each to their own. We all have different senses of humour. I dare say you’re not a Chubby Brown or Jimmy Carr fan, but thats fine too, try to lighten up a little, it is good for the heart.

A sweetener then obviously. To suggest his partner gave birth to Hilda Ogden is not funny in my eyes, probably not in the player's either. But if that's acceptable to you, so be it.

Good luck.

I'd be really surprised if Adam Clayton knows who Hilda Ogden is. A bit like the youngsters at work who look at you strangely when you laugh about Rising Damp or Ever Decreasing Circles.

This thread had certainly upset some posters with obvious delicate constitutions. Almost as if they live to be offended.

Jean Alexander was a lovely lady by the way. She was an actress, Hilda Ogden was not real.

my guess is he was told he wasnt needed for the last two games by NW and booked a flight showing some restraint until the last game had finished.... would have looked bad flying during the game

For crying out loud 😁

I don't agree to be honest. He's not the player he was but still decent at this level. I don't think it was a coincidence that the improved performances we put in before the covid break coincided with Clayton coming back into the side.

I'd have given him another year and ,ahave him as a squad player. He clearly loves the club going off his tweets last night.
All depends on what was offered surely ,as per the prior posting. He's definitely not worth, imv, close to what he is.probably on. If he really wanted to stay with. Middlesbrough did he /would he hint that he would take a pay cut?

It's a tricky one isn't it. If he stayed, but on half or a third of the previous contract money, I guess there's the danger of [subconsciously] being a bit less motivated? If you go somewhere else on that same reduced money, it's a new challenge, and you want/need to prove/ establish yourself, so it probably works out better.

I completely agree.

I find it really hard to relate to. By anyones standard a 50% pay cut or any paycut will impact on your morale and output. A footballers paycut obviously still leaves them way beyond a normal income but is still a paycut.

If you have a wage cut from 40k to 20k would you stay in the job or look elsewhere? And would someone who's only on 18k think you should be grateful you're on 20k still.

I wish people would look things up before jumping on their soap boxes.
He was told by Warnock he wouldn’t be playing.
Thank you for your service & good luck for the future, sorry it ended
this way.

At the time of the thread this much wasn’t clear. All that has happened then was the supposed Millwall Tweet and pictures of him on holiday. As soon as the official news from Warnock and Clayton was out posters backtracked and thanked Clayton and wished him well.

Jesus H Corbett, you're like a bunch of school kids arguing over who is the best superhero.

Clayton was a good player for us and I for one wish him well for the future, if one of them could afford his wages he'd do a cracking job for one of the newly promoted teams - Rotherham, Coventry, Wycombe.

Sounds like a good new thread. Would have to have a think about it- superman is a good all rounder.

Steptoe and Son fan I presume?
