A19 mobile speed cameras

Came off the A1m, overtaking two cars, noticed 2 mobile units on the other side. One unit had a camera on the roof which was pointing towards my side of the carriageway.

My speed was 77mph, I quickly braked but think it was too late.

A fine and 3 points probably on its way to me.

Gutted. I know they are always there on match day, but normally see them further down the A19, and on the same side of the carriageway as the approach to Middlesbrough.

If your Speedo said 77 it’s liekly you were doing about 73ish as they are often a fair bit under. I went passed one at about 66 on a single carriageway just before Christmas overtaking a bellend that sped up while I was going around him and havent had anything through.

They can be anywhere between crathorne and boroughbridge living in knaresborough for 3 years not a journey to or from teesside in daylight hours did i not see one sometimes even two

Police usually allow a leeway of 10%+1 (at their discretion ofc) so 78 in a 70 is fine. And of course speedometers usually overestimate, so in all likelihood you were probably doing 74-75.

the police are always there from crathorne towards yarm and acklam turn off. I reckon they must get pies at five houses and eat them whilst they park up on the bridges over the a19
further south you hardly see any at all.

There is one normally sat in the layby a few miles before you get to the A1 heading Southbound, I suspect it will be Yorkshires finest.

The nice officer who had a chat with me at the side of the A1 said 10% + 3 and that the Speedo was probably 5% over. So he said if I had 83 or less on my Speedo he wouldnt be interested in me. He then went on to say “however on this occasion……..” 🥴

Are you talking about the bend near Boroughbridge that replaced the old Dishorth roundabout? If so, I thought the speed limit coming off that bend was 50mph to allow for the bend.

Coming off the A1m, its the A168 for a few miles before merging into the A19.

The section I was on was just before Topcliffe, the 50mph was, hopefully, behind me. The road had straightened out. The vans were parked on the opposite side in the layby.

If I set my cruise control to 78mph the Google maps GPS speed shows 72mph. Have you compared your car's speedo with a GPS app on your phone?

I don't think there are any speed limit signs in that area.
There definitely is but not sure how many take note of it (hence cameras). There are two temporary signs that have been there forever clearly stating 50mph - I even checked on Google maps and did the walk-through.

I was flashed on the M1 driving North yesterday in the 50 Zone by Watford Gap. I was doing 60 but every other car seemed to be doing the same. They are going to rake it in.

think i'll check out this waze, I use google maps and the amount of times it sends me on a longer route and I drive the other direction and it cuts several minutes off the drive to work is mental. does waze have the speedo on it as well?

Yes and tbh it's a lot more 'live' reactive than google maps.
