A question of sewage

After a bit of advice. Is anybody on here 'off grid' in terms of sewage? In particular does anybody have experience of domestic package sewage treatment plants i.e. Klargester Biodisc or similar? I'm not interested in septic tanks as I'm trying to get rid of one of those. Thanks in advance. :poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop::poop:

Morning. I’ve got a sewage treatment works at my house in Newton. It is a WPL Diamond. We are one of a few properties not on the mains sewerage system in the village. It works fairly well though you do have to be careful not to overfill it (When we moved in the rain water was going into it and we have since redirected that). If you can ‘manage’ things like washing clothes (by not having a washing day and spacing it out during the week) and not flushing the toilet every time you have a wee, then they are fine. The only thing that can go wrong with them is the air pump which circulates all your waste to break it down. They certainly don’t smell and cost little to run. I get mine emptied every year but the makers say it should only need to be done every two years.

Cheers Rob. We're currently looking at a Klargester Biodisc. The plant will serve 4 houses and we've got one awkward squaddie (well complete f**king idiot, frankly) who keeps putting obstacles in the way. The WPL Diamond looks to be an aerated type activated sludge unit. Does the associated compressor make much noise (its very, very quiet here)? How many problems have you had with the compressor? Did you have the unit installed, if so who did you use? Does it discharge to a leach field or direct to a watercourse? Cheers

It was installed about ten months before we moved in. It cost £9k. It is very very quiet. You can only hear the pump when you are right next to it and even then it’s hardly noticeable. We have had no problems wih the compresser (it should last ten years). The folk who installed it are called OMDI. They are based in Barnsley I think. The owner Gareth has been most helpful in solving the initial problems we had and (touch wood) we have had no issues with it since we had the rain water redirected from it. It discharges into a separate filter ‘tank’ which makes the water that comes out potable. I wouldn’t be tempted to try it however! That water simply drains away into the surrounding land (we have half an acre). If you are up our way, I’m happy to show you the whole system, not that there’s a great deal to see.

That water is treated effluent it certainly isnt potable, though is safe to go down a surface drain rather than fowl or maybe water your garden but it is absolutely not safe to drink.
