Never before in modern times has something affected every corner of the planet on the same scale from Iran to Ireland from Australia to American from South Africa to south bank we are all in this together.

It matters not your creed, colour gender or social class every person on this globe will have been impacted in some way by this.

Do you think this collective experience could have a profound impact on how we as humans think and react to each other On a global scale.
 
I personally think that when this is over, and that could be for sometime, the human race will revert back to the have and have nots due to our nature. Maybe at a lower level people may have a little more respect for each other. Government's and their oppositions will still say they could have handled it better even though they know they couldn't.
 
No. Country by country needs to learn for the next time. The Far East have learnt from SARS / Swine Flu. Global spply lines dry up. Each country needs to be prepared.
 
As we've seen (TED, Bill Gates, etc) medical and science people have repeatedly asked to set up a global research & response team which can be working on existing and new threats along with creating antibodies to be used as a fast test base when something new appears. This would cost a hell of a lot less than the vast stocks of weapons and put us on the front foot when an outbreak occurs.

It makes so much sense, and that's why it'll likely never happen.

In any event, we may at last realise that reliance on just in time supplies from the far corners of the globe are not the best way to provide for the populace when a crisis does occur.

Interesting comparison. People want nuclear weapons to keep them safe when ventilators and face masks at a tiny fraction of the price is what they needed.
 
I'd love to like your post sword, but I fear that last line of yours may be the most important one in the whole thing.

Look at the language from Trump. Will simply increase nationalism, closing borders, further erosion of individual rights and increasing divergence between the haves and the have nots.

This will make things far, far worse.

Not if progressive politicians step up to the plate subs.
 
Btw I don’t just mean govts world leaders, I mean people as a whole as this (for what it is), is a truly global shared experience the likes of which our generation has never known.

We will now all be scarred having lived through it as the post pandemic era will be a lot different to the previous era.

As we now know that pretty much everything we assumed about modern life, sport cinemas restaurants etc can all be stopped in a heart beat.

We thought we were invincible as a race species this has proved that not to be the case.

Never again will be so complacent so blasé as I think we will appreciate “modern life more” and all its trappings more ,as we all now know how tangible and fragile our world really is

Who knows right now, but that's not to say that some people who have grasped the bigger picture won't come forward. It may take years to happen but as I said the other day, what were once easily dismissed progressive ideological concepts are now much easier to defend because we have evidence to back us up.
Defending the health service and calling for massive investment in it could be easily countered by saying "but how will you pay for it?"
Now the question should be "How much do we need to make sure the NHS can cope in a national emergency?"
