A debate on the efficacy of masks

Mandatory masks sure are working with cases going up
You have noticed the easing of lockdown restrictions? Masks are hoped to mitigate the risks of increased economic activity.

if a fact check website deems it far right
You appear, despite protestations to the contrary, to be searching for evidence to support your belief/theory. The internet is a very poor tool for this as you can find websites to support just about any outlandish conspiracy theory you care to mention. When someone quotes as "evidence" a source I have never heard of before I will check the providence of the site before reading the "evidence" and also check the other stuff they are publishing. Odd how these alternative sources always seem to parrot the same themes.

Reader beware is sound advice.

If someone puts research to you, you automatically dismiss it if it isn't from a mainstream source or if a fact check website deems it far right so why would anybody waste the time to show you. You've already made your own mind up, which is fine.

Two weeks till a second spike I believe was the trend on here.

Reading something on Twitter doesn’t constitute “research”

Maybe your simple brain needs a really clear and strong upwards curve and thousands of deaths but ask yourself this: why have cases been steadily increasing since lockdown eased?

The things ST. Your the other end of the extreme. Why does research have to peered reviewed. Just because it’s peer reviewed doesn’t mean corruption isn’t involved

Sure Tobacco reviews where peer reviewed saying smoking was healthy for you previously

“You’re”

The whole point of peer reviewing is to lessen the effects of such personal bias. Our Randy has form for just posting tweets. A tweet can’t possibly prove a scientific point.

Congrats on your correction of a typo, not sure what you are trying to prove by doing other than make yourself look petty and silly

I agree about the twitter stuff. Reason I’m not on it is because it’s an echo chamber, and goes away from the principal of critical thinking

The irony being there's 0 peer reviewed, controlled studies on the masks being effective as shown in the debate that I started this thread with, yet ST is all over them. 🤣

Anyways as you were.

He's just trying to prove that he is a **** of the highest order. It's his way or the highway, wouldn't expect anything less from a Tory.
Claims I've got a simple brain, that's fine, I know there are smarter men and women on the planet than me, least I admit that.

As for the tweets, believe it or not smalltown but Billy and Bear aren't the oracle's of data analysis in the world. If hazard a guess that the graphs and stats I've found for myself have been complied by men and women closer to the fields of medical data analysis. Hell for all you know they could be copying them like for like. 🤔

That’s ok you stay in your little twitter echo chamber. It’s fine. Just expect to be shot down when you spread it to here.

I guess “confirmation bias” is yet another thing you don’t understand?

Shot down by you? Doctor Smalltown?

However will I manage to go on with my day?

😂

The statistical evidence is clear. It is true that clinical studies do not reproduce this but the real world statistics support wearing a mask as making a contribution to reducing transmission.

The good news for those of us who have actually examined the opinions and evidence is that mask wearing is actually being carried out by most people, the ones who are not, are few enough to be insignificant, statistically speaking.

I wear my mask like a good boy too.. but your first paragraph is clearly nonsense.

I don't care anyway I'm not getting embroiled in this crap again, winning a debate on Fmttm is just not important when there's lots of actual stuff to be getting on with. We can agree to disagree that's fine.

it's not too often you and I agree Alvez, but you are absolutely right on this. It's like a dog chasing it's own tail.

Good point.
Time to hit the beach. Beautiful day outside.

The link I put up has been peer reviewed. It's an event study that is the only feasible possibility, unless you want to deliberately infect someone not wearing a mask in a paired experiment - this is not ethically possible and would be unlikely to produce real like results.

There have been lots of paired experiments on influenza with masks as sighted once again in the debate. You're view is completely entrenched and it's pointless talking to you but I won't allow you to flat out lie.
