A case of mistaken identity and the Boro Bootboys

In the early 70s, me and my mate went to the game v Portsmouth. Back then, it was a thing to tie a scarf round your wrist, and my mate (for reasons I didn’t know then and still can’t fathom) had a Glasgow Rangers silk scarf on his wrist.
All was well in the match but, as we walked away from the ground, I heard the familiar ‘ello, ‘ello chant behind us. Didn’t think anything of it but the next minute we were rushed, I was barged out of the way and my mate took a couple of solid blows to the back of his head. Shouts of Pompey b***ds as the group - fortunately for us- kept going. They might have nicked his Rangers scarf, I can’t remember, but hope they did!

God only knows what it must have been like for always fans back then!

Hello, hello, we are the Boro boys, hello, hello, we are the Boro boys.
This was the Ayresome Angels chant but I have a feeling that “ we are the Ayresome Angels and we never miss a match” bit was adapted to “ we are the Boro boot boys and we never miss a match”.
Of course, after so many years, I could be imagining all of this 😊
