That is truly bizarre. One of those photos taken in 1966 when I was aged 5 has a youth looking exactly like me aged circa 13 yrs old. I have just shown it to 2 people who now think I am a time traveller 😧. Hopefully, whoever the kid was, grew out of his look to be as charming and handsome as I 🧟‍♂️

Also, you’d have thunk Bernard Gent would have spelled Boro correctly 😉

So coluka your 1st cup match wasn't the City game but out if the tardis & into WHL 😏

My dad went, I'm sure it was with a trip organised through the Boro Social Club on Clive Road - found the programme the other day when I was cataloging my collection

A surprise there for me. I thought Eric McMordie arrived later than that. A flipping good player he was.

I was there too. Another disappointing FA cup defeat but the side we were playing was a bit useful mind - virtually the double winning side of a few years earlier

I used to know a bloke that played Northern Intermediate League for donny. He used to quieten down the opposing player with a couple of roughhouse tackles early doors.. He tried it on McMordie and he said he was tackling thin air - best player he was ever up against

I went to the game, the pich was a quagmire,Le Flem managed to come off the pich as clean as he went on don't think he even got the bottom of his boots muddy
When I checked up he only made 10 apps for us - 10 more than we deserved - actually, we could have mentioned him as playing for both clubs for the Forest game - only 25 years old when he retired from football

I was

I was there as well . Wasn’t there a severe frost in the week leading up to the game and it was in doubt. Middlesbrough had boots made for them that had soles that would give some grip on the icy pitch, but unfortunately it thawed overnight and they were useless, as the pitch was an absolute quagmire( worse than Derby County’s Baseball ground pitch). The team stayed on the South Coast before the game ( Portsmouth/ Southsea) and there was a picture in the gazette of some of the team, with the story of the “special” boots.
Next week we were away to league leaders Manchester City where we lost 3-1, Jim Townsend scoring. At least we had a goal to cheer in this game, even though it was only a consolation.

I went in the hope of seeing the great Jimmy Greaves, only to find out he wasn't playing, massive disappointment for me personally but with Jimmy playing who knows how many they would have got.

What a striker he was, didn't he score on every debut he played?
