9 subs on the bench in the Championship from next season.

Don’t see it as a particularly bad thing. Can still make the same amount of changes. And there is a chance for a younger lad or 2 to get a spot on the bench and make the odd appearance. And for first teamers who would be otherwise sat in the stands gets them on the bench too and keeps them more involved.

Thinks it’s ok actually

I can't see to many negatives. I guess it keeps players on the fringe a bit more envolved. It's better sitting on the bench being an option.

I would maybe have liked it more of say 2-3 of them had to be 'homegrown' from U23s. Just means teams with better squads have more options on the bench.

The way Leicester are going they will have a man city type bench 😂

It's supposed to be 11 v 11, not 20 v 20.

One sub was allowed starting in 1966, but only to replace an injured player. That was easy to abuse though.

A sub keeper and three outfield subs is plenty on the bench. Allow three subs to be used. No more needed.

If players can't play for 90 minutes without running out of steam, then they should not be professional footballers. Players and teams pacing themselves is supposed to be part of the tactics of the game. Running around at 100 mph for 60 minutes then coming off knackered makes the game poorer, not better.

Good grief that looks like a mid table team at best.
Need the cheque book out.

Brynn - 13 clean sheets in 46 gams
Dijksteel - looked better than tommy smith last season
Fry - prem quality defender
Lenihan - top championship defender.. top top
Bola - better defensivly than ryan giles
Howson - what a guy!
Hackney - 3 goals 4 assists.. Carrick is a big fan
Forss - 10 goals & 5 assists.. mostly from the right wing
Akpom 29 goals & 2 assists
McGree - 6 goals and 3 assists
Coburn - solid 1 in 3 striker

McNair, Jones (3 goals and 5 assets), Barlaser (two goals 8 assists), Crooks. (7 goals and 6 assists) all can do it at the top end of the champo

I think we are taking what we already have for granted. I think we'll bring players in.. but were top 6 with the squad we have right now.

Brynn - never played at this level
Dijksteel - not trusted to play regularly even though right back was our weak link
Fry - definitely not a prem quality defender, not even close
Lenihan - agree with this one
Bola - Giles is 10/10 going forward and 3/10 defensively. Bola is about 5/10 at both so not exactly a ringing endorsement
Howson - fits the age profile of this board better than a championship midfield
Hackney - good player. looking forward to how his career develops
Forss - done a good job but could be improved by playing a proper winger out there. Would prefer him to be the 2nd choice striker
Akpom - hope he stays. Key to the way we play
McGree - Ramsey was better, excellent back-up.
Coburn - Time will tell. Not convinced he can lead a promotion charge. Would prefer him to be 3rd choice striker

McNair - far too expensive to be a back-up. Needs moving on and funds better invested
Jones - good 2nd choice right winger but not sure he suits the way we play. Probably able to get a decent fee for him which might be better than trying to get him to be something he isn't
Barlaser - like him as a signing. Expect to see more from him
Crooks - wouldn't be surprised to see him leave but he's a good option to bring on

I think we need 6 or 7 1st teamers and most of these being shifted to back-ups. If we had to go with this squad for the season we'd be midtable.

Seems to handle premier league strikers well

even a stopped clock..

he was solid and can do a job..

I would say 45-55 this boards average. 35 is football today is not the 35 of old.. he looked peak last season
Hackney - good player. looking forward to how his career develops
he's not going to get worse
Forss - done a good job but could be improved by playing a proper winger out there. Would prefer him to be the 2nd choice striker
a proper winger? behave man.. carrick knows the score.
Akpom - hope he stays. Key to the way we play
mid table?
McGree - Ramsey was better, excellent back-up.
43 appearances, 6 goals, 3 assists.. some back up that!
Coburn - Time will tell. Not convinced he can lead a promotion charge. Would prefer him to be 3rd choice striker
1 in 4 two seasons ago in the championship.. if he wasn't boro we'd be after him
McNair - far too expensive to be a back-up. Needs moving on and funds better invested
too expensive to be back up.. prem was interested.. back up.. prem quality
Jones - good 2nd choice right winger but not sure he suits the way we play. Probably able to get a decent fee for him which might be better than trying to get him to be something he isn't
Jones is quality.. going back to the old adage.. he's crap.. get rid.. £10m! lol
Barlaser - like him as a signing. Expect to see more from him
I think he has to up his game massively, he's too slow imo.. thinking reactions etc
Crooks - wouldn't be surprised to see him leave but he's a good option to bring on
just a daft 7 goals and 6 assists.. in 37 appearances.. 13 goal involvements

7 first teamers? So who are your 4 first teamers? Lenihan, Hackney Akpom... i'm guessing your sticking with Fry?

EDIT

GK Steffen
LB Giles
MF Mowett
LW Ramsey
ST Archer

and then I guess your saying.. McNair to be sold and Crooks... and you seem to be angling for Jones too.

Yeah I know. So it's not really much different. The worry the poster had about 9 separate substitutions won't happen
It will be, as the circusification of the game proceeds. Tag in and out subs, special teams for free kicks and corners. It will all be forced in eventually.

From our first choice 11 last season of Steffen, Smith, Fry, Lenihan, Giles, Howson, Hackney, Forss, Akpom, Ramsey & Archer then 2 or 3 of them needed upgrading (Smith, Howson (can't last forever), Forss (does a good job but not ideal) and 4 of them were loans. Anyone replacing them that was their back-up last season is an obvious step down and seen as though we weren't good enough last season I can't see how we would be improved by them this season.

Fry is good enough for the championship. I said he's not PL quality. I'm happy with him in our team. Those 4 are correct though and it is the spine that is most important. Howson while he is still fit and able enough is a good player so I'm not desperate to replace him. I do think we lack a bit of bite in the midfield though so I think we could improve on him in that position.

I like Jones as well but I don't think he suits the way we play under Carrick so we could sell and re-invest while there is interest. If there is the option of keeping Jones and him not being first choice or getting £10m and putting it towards Archer, Ramsey or Giles etc and improving the first 11 then we should probably do that. Crooks is similar. I really like him but he doesn't fit our system. He is effective from the bench but will he be happy not being a starter? That's why I could see him leaving. I don't think we should sell him but I could see him wanting out.

I like McGree as well but 6 goals and 3 assists in a creative position in one of the highest scoring teams in the league isn't something to shout about. Ramsey was a far better player and I would prefer someone of his standard there than McGree, with McGree as back-up/rotation on either side.

Don't think anything I've said is controversial. I just don't have the wide eyed optimism that you have. Judging by your "inventive" potential XIs you like to produce I'd say you have an eye on replacing the majority of our squad far more than I do.
