Where did I say all of them? Where did I say that everyone who goes to the pub on Saturday are pond life?

A lot of the UK will be looking forward to actually socialising with friends and family (in a respectable manner) this Saturday at their local, probably for the first time in over 3 months....I for one too will be looking forward to catching up with friends and family over a meal.

However you have to be very very naive if you think Saturday isn't going to attract a lot of the same selfish idiots who have no respect for the rest of the public...which was clearly shown at Bournemouth beach the other day...as well as being packed like sardines on trains...amongst other incidents that have occurred in the last week.
You aren't really been fair on the publicans and restaurant owners though.
95% of us have put measures in place to follow the guidance.
We are only doing table service for example. We haven't actually lost any tables either as we aren't allowing standing at the bar for now.
We offered table service anyways before this pandemic crap kicked off so the staff are well versed in the procedures as are the locals.

For the record people have been packed on public transport (especially in London) since the gov announced folk could go back to work.

Not for one minute blaming the restaurant owners or staff. I have a few friends who work in pubs and restaurants and they are actively trying their upmost to ensure their environment is as safe as can be with extreme measures put in place ready for Saturday. I know one local pub has announced they're refusing to open on Saturday because they're worried the first weekend open will attract 'the wrong customers'.

If there's anyone that ruins it for the rest of us, I don't think it will be the staff and owners for a start.

Hopefully I am well off the mark and everything runs smoothly for all owners and staff...but judging by some of the incidents that have happened and been reported in the last 3 months and how selfish some people are, then I will be shocked if this doesn't bring out some of the same idiots that have not respected the lockdown rules.

You cant blame the landlords for wanting their businesses reopening. They have put in procedures to deal with the situation all of which costs money.

I hope that it passes off peacefully and everything goes well.

My thoughts exactly.

I’m going for a pint or two on Saturday. They’ve got Timmy Ts and Thwaites on.

My landlord has re done the car park, put fake grass down, bought loads of tables and put up a huge cover for the rain.
They are well aware of their responsibilities and will deal with anyone who abuses the space.
They decided against taking bookings.
I’m fine - if the tables are full we will just take a couple of our outdoor chairs over and sit away from a table and have our beers.

We had a meeting yesterday and it's ultimately up to the customer to respect the social distancing rules. There is nothing written in law saying front of house have to police it. In saying this though the manager on duty will be advising folks on the current social guidelines.

The landlord of your local sounds exactly like the owners of my place. Someone who genuinely cares for his/her business and is in it for the long term profits and not the short term gains. We predominantly make our money off of the food side but we have reserved tables for walk on drinkers plus we have the beer garden outside with which the government has slightly different guidelines for.

Is this place local to Boro mate or elsewhere, quite happy to give them a visit.

It may be fine. Some may remember my thread of a few weeks back when Spain allowed bars and restaurants to open again.

Not all bars opened on the first day, there was certainly no mad rush of people desperate to get a beer, and social distancing was observed. Hand sanitiser was available for everyone, tables were spaced apart, and the city council allowed bars to "spread" out across pavements - in parts of the centre, roads were closed to vehicles. This is still very much the case now - going for a drink or a meal is a very pleasurable experience.

I do accept that the drinking culture in Spain is very different to the UK though.

Exactly the point... drinking culture in most countries is different to the UK!!

And this is the real crux of the matter.

I think we should revisit this on Monday.

btw have you seen the virus figures in California after they opened their bars.
Very different rules and very different venues. Yes I have.

The facts are the government aren't forcing anywhere to open. These businesses that have been shut for over 100 days now still have bills to pay. The loans have helped but ultimately been open is the best way forward. Businesses especially pubs and restaurants have implemented measures to open safely. We also reckon environmental health will be visiting A LOT of venues to check measures are on place. You never get told when they are coming. Those who are openly flouting guidance could possibly run the risk of been closed but it's still a grey area.
The public still ultimately have a choice as to when and if they visit, again nobody is forcing anybody. If the public deems a place safe then it's their choice of they visit or not.

My place for is also continuing the takeout option which we can expand more due to more staff working in the kitchen than just the one chef who has worked all the way through (who also part owns the business). And finally, each of our staff members was given the choice as to if they wanted to come back to work straight away or wait. Every single one of our staff bar one has chosen to come back to work.

I was a regular at a local pub and at a local club but I'm going to give it a week or two before starting again in order to see how the idiots perform in the initial period.
Some people appear not to understand that the virus is still very real and dangerous and will abuse the pubs opening.
Can't blame the landlords though, for wanting to get back on track.
