Have you tried the council or Shelter?
 
Go to the councils housing options team. Unfortunately males under 60 are not in a priority group unless serious medical or significant mental health issues or other serious issues are in play. They have a duty to provide advice and assistance to everyone and should have contacts with local landlords, but they are struggling to support the homeless the government decided has a statutory need, fit single people between 21-60 are generally deemed not in priority need (Unless pregnant or fleeing violence).
 
I feel for you sadgit. It's a fine line for a lot of people before they face the issues you are having to go through. I wish I had an answer.
