3rd night of anti lockdown riots in Netherlands

Riots in the street, mental health surges, economy collapse. Are we now looking at a serious argument over the risk of the virus vs the risks of the lockdowns?

I think, given the vaccine rollout, any decision to extend a lockdown past the end of March (once the top 4 groups are done) will result in pure anarchy. We are a year down the the road now. I think every human being has a point where they lose control, even if they are generally compliant, law abiding people.

Its rumbling all over Europe at the minute. Restaurants are planning on forcibly opening of their own accord. Its going to be an interesting 2 months.

Im hopeful that we will remain peaceful and come end of March be in a tier 1 type situation whilst the rest of the country are vaccinated.

Everyone I'm speaking to lately are either getting wound up by the smallest things or are really flat and have no motivation.

Personally I'm lurching from one to the other and can honestly say I've never felt this way mentally before, however I think (hope) that if we can get to the end of February we will start to see some serious light at the end of the tunnel.

"A Covid-19 testing centre was also set alight on Saturday evening in the northern village of Urk, local authorities said.

Police arrested a 39-year-old man in Almere on Saturday for posting threatening messages about journalists online, Dutch news agency ANP reported."

^ I think the above says more about what they are rioting over. Sounds like a bunch of conspiracy theorists who don't believe the virus is real, rather than the risks of lockdowns.

March feels very optimistic mate sadly.

Same. I made a joke to my sister in law yesterday via whatsapp about central heating (!) that she took totally the wrong way, she never normally would have in the past. And a few other similar instances.

I go from days where I just want some peace and quiet (from work more than anything else) so I can do some meaningful exercise to days where I can barely be bothered to go out for a walk. Its weird cos when I feel 'a bit down' it never lasts for more than a few hours and I can feel really good again only the next morning. I think I need a week off work, not to *do* anything per se but just to slow down a bit. Got some leave to use before March anyway.

Sadly, I've found that kitting my house out with audio visual equipment genuinely makes me happy for a time. Could be worse, could be drugs I guess.

Unfortunately I fear the same could happen here. It’s not as if we don’t have recent form for riots (2011) and some thugs only need the slightest of excuses.

"Football fans of the Willem II club took to the streets of Tilburg to "protect their city" against rioters, news site Brabants Dagblad reports"
Good to see football fans being shown in a good light for a change.
