3000 covid deaths in the USA yesterday

"more than one million Americans were newly infected with Covid-19 in the first five days of December, according to data from Johns Hopkins University."

One million in 5 days 😮😮😮😵😵

It's just indicative of how the US has become so polarised.
On one side you have some of the Republicans who seem so enthralled by the cult of Trump that they are prepared to forego democracy, science and civic responsibility and on the other you have the sensible ones trying to stop the spread.
We have our fair share of self-entitled idiots over here, but they are much more prevalent in America.
You only need to look at the travel numbers over thanksgiving to see that there is a massive problem with people not following advisory notices.
I honestly expect it to get much worse in the US.

Oh yeah 3,265. Quite a bit above!

In UK and USA it has killed about 1 in every 1000 people (taking no consideration of age etc).

In China it has killed 1 in every 330,000 (and other parts of Far East Asia are remarkably low too).

The biggest mystery of the whole thing. Can it really just be down to mask wearing?

I find the Chinese numbers hard to believe

That really accounts for a delta of 1 in 1000 v 1 in 330,000? That's not a significant difference, its astronomically mind-boggling to the power of a billion!

Singapore sorted it because they had very strict rules, and heavy fines which they applied as required. Not the wishy washy approach we took. They also stopped foreign travel. We have just blundered through the whole situation.

It would appear so:

I’ve been skeptical of a lot of the restrictions but mask wearing is a no brainer, it should be mandatory the minute you leave your house especially as it doesn’t prevent you doing anything. The problem is, in America the issue of masks has been used for political gain.

As much as Trumps policy (or lack of) is to blame for this I also think the dysfunctional political structure is to blame too, given federal authority only extends so far.

The Trump presidency has shown in clear focus how broken the American political system is. Constitution anyone?

If it’s been so easy to implement in Asia, they must have some way round it for glasses wearers. I wear mine but if I’ve got my bins on and go in a supermarket from the cold I’m literally fumbling around like a blind man with all the steam.
