15th October 1994 Boro got beat 5-1 away at Luton

My very good mate organised for the two of to travel down to the game from Newcastle on a Pink Floyd coach as they were going to an Pink Floyd concert at Earls court, we got dropped off a few miles outside Luton when as an old lady picked us up & dropped us off outside Lutons ground, as she dropped us off she told us her son played for Lutons reserves

Robbo picked Stephen Pears, who was to make his final Boro appearence, a shame the Boro career he had & to finish at such a beating, we hardly conceded & 5 in one game

Stepgen Pears started his career with a 2-0 home win over Cardiff, 5th November 1983 & finished away to Luton but what a keeper he was, one of the best in our history

David Pleat was their manager back then

After the game the tube back to earls court, swamping with PF fans, couple of beers then once the concert was finished a coach home with PF fans, all the bus were joyous we were gutted after the thumping

the top three keepers, platt, pears, schwartzer, hard to split. we have had some dodgy ones as well funny how we sold one of them to liverpool for good money and sell some of our good players cheaply

When looking for my Waterboys ticket from Newcastle in the 80s, I came across these from my 'Luton membership days'. Joining for the away game allowed me to get into the farewell to Ayresome as a 'Luton' supporter. So the 5-1 wasn't the complete disaster that I assumed at the time.

I was there Erimus - 2 own goals by Wilkinson
When Whyte scored to make it 1-5 the Boro fans were singing 'We want 2' !!

Great shot stopper and my favourite Boro keeper. His game suffered a bit when the back pass rule changed. He wasnt the best kicker.
