Where were you? I'd been running a Shakespeare workshop in a school in Cumbria, came out, switched on the car radio and thought I was hearing a Radio 4 play. Things would never be the same again and I just wanted to go home and see my kids.

Coatham Stob, working outside a property, old woman come out of her house to say “someone had crashed a plane into a tower in America“, shortly after she came out to say a second plane had crashed, turned on the van radio and couldn’t believe what was happening, especially when the first tower collapsed, absolutely wasn’t expect that.

I was at work, in a high street bank and a customer came in and said a plane had hit the first tower.. thought nothing of it. I had a half day for study leave as I had an exam the following day but when I got home I couldn’t take my eyes off the TV.. I still have a morbid fascination of it to this day.

Was at home, couldn't get any internet access so thought something was up, so switched on TV - saw most of it unfold in real-time. A very grim day.

Was working at Slade Green sidings replacing wooden sleepers, jumped in the work van at break and it was on the radio

Didn`t make sense until I was able to watch the evening news......horrific

At work and someone said a plane had hit a building in US. Watched it on a tiny black and white TV in my lab. Then loads of others huddled round the TV in shock. Felt so surreal.

I was getting ready to go to Ted Cocker’s funeral. I came down to put my shoes on and thought the mother in law was watching a film.

Just been on the phone with Ray192 and switched on the TV. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and just sat and watched it all go off.

In the office in Cork, the news broke on this site for me and everybody else at work, unusual because there was always a radio on, they just hadn't put it out. Flew back to see the kids the day after, airport security had changed completely.
