Just going to be an massively equally shittier version of 2020, right?

Anyone else who can do find no reason to be positive about the following year at all. Or is it, as I suspect, just me ?

I'm sure it's not just you, and apologies if this is incredibly insensitive bearing in mind your mental health troubles, but if you expect it to be just as bad or worse, you have pretty much guaranteed it will be

I know positivity isnt something you can just grab off the shelf and I wish you well for a better year than you fear may be the case

There is much to be positive about with regard to tackling the challenges covid has brought about, trust me, and I accept that may not be enough, but better times are ahead in that respect

Think positively. Last year we didnt know what we were facing, but stumbled through feeling very scared. This year we know a lot more about the virus, who it infects and the seriousness of the consequences. We also know that we face a way out, although it may take some time to get there, but the most at risk get the jab first.
Yes there may be some hard times but this is the beginning of the end.

Otherwise on the football front, we have got rid of Woodgate and now have Warnock, we are near the top of the division. What more could we want :)

I think the fact it's January doesn't help, people are depressed this time of year anyway. I'm ok with it, we're fortunate with our circumstances so just being a bit bored is as bad as it's got. But I sympathize with anyone who's struggling. Hopefully things will be looking up by later on in the year

couldn’t face getting out of bed today
I blagged working at home. Answered the calls and paid lip service but did **** all else. Make a big thing about understanding mental health but then I get comments about I’m just “in a bad mood”.

low pressure doesn’t help. Constant rain, can’t get outside do anything or go running.

I take all your points. I just can’t see an end to this **** show and find anything to be positive about.

If it’s worth anything many CEOs are looking at August for opening up — attended my third townhall meeting this month where the trend was one of optimism— this coincides with the vaccine rollout of course. Perhaps this is dependent on the industry you’re in and how much debt your company has accumulated.

Travel back in time to 1997 again?
If we had the knowledge that we would bounce back, and be the better for it, might enjoy it more this time round (ie, go back in time type thing), but at the time it was just frustrating and the end of a very short era.
Just part of that magical Boro rollercoaster :)

I’ve more memories from those 2,3 seasons than any of the other 23 ones that have followed it. They were happy days indeed.

On such a high when we won (Derby away, Chesterfield etc), but so low when we lost. It had started to affect my weekends, and I vowed after then that I'd never let football do that to me again. Still trying

No
Much worse than that for a lot of people
This country is heading for a serious recession and inequality on a scale never imagined previously
Throw the cluster fcuk of how Brexit will lose millions of jobs as 2021 unfolds and you have a perfect storm for the UK

Hope these Tories get held to account for this mess of their doing

Well that’s cheered me up so thanks for that

I need some glimmer of hope to hold onto. There’s none whatsoever.

Years are meaningless, if you ever had faith that things would change because it went from December 31st to January 1st then you’re looking in the wrong places!

Maybe but after all the “year we’ve had” comments at Christmas it really isn’t any better is it. Mentally this is the worse I’ve ever felt, I’m drained, exhausted and I was signed off work in summer as I couldn’t function at all. Heading back down the same road.

"Hope" is important:

This concerns everyone - including those who may be experiencing health issues for the first time.

Mental health can be effected by enforced changes in lifestyle due to loss of jobs, inability to pay essential bills and covid - related restrictions.

The stigma surrounding mental health is doubly compounded for those to whom mental health issues are "alien" or previously unknown.

People dont need a formal "diagnosis" to experience mental health issues.

Some positive thoughts for the future:

* Hope is an essential ingredient for everyone: its freely available and not the same as belief in sugar-candy mountain - its about realism and support.

* Many of us - if not all - have realised how important it is to keep an eye on each other and we can extend that during the coming period.

* Footi: UTMB - what a transformation! We could be looking at Promotion [!!] - remember last season [if you must].

* No more ginger tan over the pond!

* Spring is coming! Brighter, lighter mornings! Longer days! Sunshine. Flowers and colour in the gardens and on the moors.

* The Specials and many other bands have new material coming out this year - and maybe live gigs will return in some form this year?

* We continue to find creative means of doing things differently - we can all add to that.

* There is increasing support for essential workers and services which we can use to push for better pay and conditions.

* With more time on our hands we have the opportunity to improve our exercise regimes and diets: structure and routine are important for good health.

* We all benefit from a Solution - Focused "Can do" approach: "No Problems Only Solutions".

I was slightly more optimistic until reading this - I think as the vaccine is rolled out things will start to ease, if as expected we hit 13 million vaccines in the next two months then that will be great. Assuming we continue at a similar rate then the country will start to open up, restrictions will begin to lift and so on.
I would expect as the months go by things will get better and better.

my personal beliefs are that covid, trumpism etc are all small fry compared to what the human race is just burying its head in the sand about, and that is the effects & consequences of climate change. as usual, theres loads of guff and tinkering, but anyone with an understanding & attachment to the natural world knows that things are pretty much fooked. that said... personal mental health, and being able to be happy regardless of what is going on is still very much possible with the right help. my thoughts are with the op.

2020, "I'm the shhittest year there's ever been"

2021, "Hold my beer"

To everyone struggling, admit it to yourself, talk about it don't let it fester. Things WILL GET BETTER, start planning something whether it is a dream holiday or just a night out down the pub or a great meal in a restaurant, think about where you will go, what you will order, what you will do. Find joy in something, sit and watch the snow, falling listen to some music.

We'll get through this.
