2 amazing stats under carrick

Plenty of teams have got 100 points before.

Even Sunderland.

Reading got 106 points once, which is the record.
Yeah, I edited it, as I unfortunately remembered Newcastle and then traced further back. 5 times in 30 years there's been +100 points, but only 3 in the last 20 years, once in the last 13 years. I suppose what I meant was it's becoming harder, to be that strong, as the lower sides are much stronger.

Burnely are on course for 103 from the seasons results and their last 20 form would have been good for 117 points, crazy. Going on recent form they should get to 105, but they have to come to the riverside, and have a few other tough games, so around 100 I think.

So for carricks last 20, to extrapolate to 108, then that's better than anyone has ever got, and at a time when it's also seemingly harder. It just shows that how we're playing now, we certainly shouldn't be fearing anyone, not over two legs and not in a final where no side has home advantage.

50 points and 50 goals from 22 games

Ok, here's my contribution to this:

First 12 matches: 25 points, 23 scored, 14 conceded.

Next 10 matches: 25 points, 27 scored, 7 conceded.

Far from being a new manager bounce, we've actually improved considerably as we've gone on.

Now you might ask why I've split the games 12 and 10, rather than 11 and 11. After all, we got exactly the same number of points from the first 11 as the second 11, so am I not just plucking the stats that make it look like we're improving?

I'd say not: a material change happened at the start of that 10 match run. Archer made his first start. We were good before, but he's taken us to the next level. We're picking up close to half a point more with him in the team than we did in MC's first 12 games.

The improvement isn't all down to Archer though. The defensive improvement over the last 10 is also clear.

Yeah, I agree.

I think at the start under Carrick we improved a bit over Wilder, but I think it was mainly a confidence thing, the same with Leo too to a degree, it was like a reset switch, back to the beginning of the season again. We had a bit more luck too (or less bad luck). Since Carrick's found his feet we've looked like the best team in the league (or a top-two certainty), which is some going, as Burnley are on fire too. Confidence looks sky high, and how we bounce back from not winning has been exceptional.

As far as our chances go, I think I'm at second (50%), or win the playoffs (30%), don't go up (20%), but if we don't we've got one hell of a solid footing to smash it next year. I'm not sure if we could retain all the loanees, but to be honest I don't see any of them getting a game for an established prem side. I suppose our biggest risk would be losing them to the three promoted sides.

I suppose we have to look at Chuba a bit like a lonaee too, as his deal is up in the summer. Hopefully, we can get Chuba on another contract, but he's going to have a long list of clubs after him, all over Europe, and he's not afraid of travel. If we don't go up then I think we're in trouble with that, but he seems a good lad, and might show some loyalty and give us another year in the champo. I could understand him wanting to go mind, to lock in a 4-year contract on big money, which we can't afford (in the champo). He's definitely good enough for a game in any of the top leagues, which is where him and the loanees differ I think.

That form table is incredible!

But scary in the same way, given Burnley's pummelling at City last night.....
I was thinking that when watching the game. Burnley are running away with the championship, but top of the Premier League is a whole other level. Man City seem to be an outlier in that they are so much better than everyone else right now, its hard to say if Burnley would struggle or succeed in the PL next season.

Pretty sure Chuba has another year left after this. Doesn't he?
