150 thousand now officially recovered

"When mass testing gets up to speed, I hope the results show that many many 100s of 1000s more people have had the virus and recovered without even realising. " I really hope you are right but
If the following is true then I fear that mass testing doesn't seem to be the governments highest priority

Typical of certain media outlets constantly running negative stories.

The company were told their ventilators didn't conform to government requirements but that's way down in the article.

Also, the bigger story should be It's certainly heartening that so many businesses responded to the government's call for support in sourcing ventilators. But that snippet only makes it in at the end of the article.

Loads of companies are helping make extra ventilators but let's run the story of the one that has been turned down, definitely not another attack on the government's handling of a very difficult situation.

I personally find that the efforts of all the people on the front line, the food industry, those repurposing their businesses for other production needs and the innumerable acts of kindness and community being done by individuals across the nation as a source for hope.

I don't know. But it looks s long haul for the critical and severe cases with only 135 out of hospital. And about another 20000 expected to be hospitalised this week.
Various reports from around the world say of you are hospitalised with it your in there for 2 weeks on average so I wouldn't worry.
Plus like others have said not everybody who has it or has had it required hospital treatment or a test.

Couldn't agree more, seems bad news sells

I'm a worrier at the best of times, my daughter is a nurse practitioner & I want to read the good sides of how they're going to defeat the virus & the NHS will have everything at their disposal
Not we'll all be lucky if we're all alive next week, give me good news please

Check out the good news thread. I put up a post on all ventilator developments. One company is starting production this week.

Most if not all of us are in isolation but people are still getting the virus. It would be useful for those in isolation if there was some feedback from the government or NHS as to how these people are getting infected. Are the flaunting the lockdown, are the not social distancing, are they primarily people who are still working. What are they doing wrong that others aren't. Obviously the government stopped tracking the disease in the early days but this information would have been so useful in stopping people getting infected.

Read that 50% of those who go on ventilators die. That seem a very high percentage.
DO NOT READ if you want good news.

That sounds about right. About a quarter of hospitalisations need ventilation. They are about 12% of all positives. So about, 3000 critical patients and 1780 deaths. Just over a half. On R4 the other day, someone said the longer you are on the ventilation (say, a couple to three weeks), you get to the point of little chance of survival.

That is no surprise though is it? Even before this virus having to go on the ventilator for any reason was very bad news because it means the body can’t sustain itself.

Sadly true. It was said today that these positive pressure O2 'ventilators', if used early, may give patients a better chance of survival, even if they subsequently get moved to s mechanical ventilator.

They could have got it 2 weeks ago as the incubation period can be that long
