The 1st ever televised live match outside the top division
Boro 2 Villa 1

Memirable winning goal by Boro legend & icon Tony Mowbray
Villa who were top of the league were 8 points clear & woukd extend this lead to 11 points took a lead to stamp their leadership in the division
But the Boro under Rioch were made of sterner stuff as our epic cup matches v Everton proved & with a emphatic final 15 minutes with Boro 1-0 down we turned it around
Alan Kernaghan scored to bring the scores level, we pressed & pressed & the holgate in full voice, with Co commentator Ian St John saying, they'll lift the roof if they score again, & we did

Laws, Mowbrayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

"These teams have already met three times this season, in the league and two Littlewoods Cup ties, and each one of those matches has finished one nil. Are we to have the fourth... Or are we??..."

Commentators comments leading up to Kernaghans equaliser, as Pearsy launched a kick up the field, still hear them now

The holgate roars

What an exhilarating day that was. I went to the game but also recorded it for later (remember video recorders? 😁). I actually fell asleep watching it on the Sunday night as I was emotionally shattered!

I remember screaming "Mowwwbrraaayyy!!!" as he dived to head it in, then jumping about like a lunatic in the Holgate.

What did Bruce request?
