2600 cases and 103 deaths

A report I’ve just read. Apologies if there is other contra data. If there is, please share.

One European country has some questions to answer
Germany is the one with 28 deaths - we are the other.

It's 144 deaths today and 3269 cases.

There are good reasons for lower death rates in Germany (a lot more ICUs and ventilators) but I've also read that they might be reporting some deaths as the underlying disease rather than C19.

I don't think the German government has been undermining their health service for the last 10 years.
The Chinese rate of deaths is apparently falling- the Chinese build hospitals in days. The UK build mortuaries.

You would think there would be at least some attempt to standardise the data that's coming through.

We currently have a higher death rate than Italy did at this stage (after 10 confirmed deaths). They also went into lockdown tomorrow (if we were on the same timeline)

Don't think we will go into lockdown, will cost the Government Billions, which they will hate to spend. Ivory Tower syndrome. Could you imagine closing Heathrow and Gatwick etc.

Johnson is giving a daily masterclass in looking like he is carefully arriving at the answers on the spot flanked by his scientific experts.

No questions to him from the media on why we are short of basic PPE for the NHS staff never mind beds and ventilators when we have known for many weeks that this virus was on its way.

You do feel the aftermath of the crisis is going to be his really big political test, the economy is going to be shattered.

I agree, but it might be how different countries legally define causes of death. Twice I've been in a position to question the registrar, but when you've just lost someone you tend not to ask difficult questions.

We won't know the real numbers until the create the antibody test that checks if you've been exposed to the virus. That's the one Johnson mentioned today.

When they start running the tests we'll probably find that tens of thousands more have been exposed to the virus. One virologist I heard said he thought viral load might be in part responsible for disease severity. In other words if you get sprayed by someone sneezing you're buggered. But if you happen to touch something infected 6 or 7 hours earlier you may just have a mild dose but still develop immunity. If that's true it might provide other options for therapy.

I imagine it's because there's a fair amount of demand right now, and the UK probably no longer manufactures this stuff.
Yes but my point is that there is a woeful lack of planning ahead by Johnson and his team. These things should have been thought about weeks ago, not right now. Maybe Dominic Cummings was too busy on other matters to spot this crisis as it was unfolding in China. Either way not good enough from a UK Government in my opinion, imagine if Corbyn had been in the seat?
