1,610 UK Covid deaths reported today

Central what is the source for that picture? That is truely horrifying, it looks like a cemetry in Northern France in 1940

It's a satirical photo composition with Rhys Mogg, Hancock and Shipman superimposed. Also, it looks like Cummings in the background. I can't find anything on the original source photo. It may be a satire or a satire embelished truth.

Thanks bear, I didn't notice the people so the satire was missed, that is hancock in the background with the mask on I think. Let's hope that it is just satire and not a true reflection of peoples loss in one area.

We must remember and never forget every death is an individual person, a loved one lost, leaving behind broken heartened people. The vaccine is a triumph it offers real hope and we are eternally grateful to those who worked hard to find it and make it available. But do not let the triumphalism and relief mask and let us forget who sent elderly folk back to care homes to die, who overseen horrendous rudderless pathetic governance when what was needed was war time leadership. How the few were allowed to profiteer from the desperate needs of the many. There is blood on the hands of those we placed our trust in and the passing of time should not be an opportunity for them to evade their responsibilities.

The death rate is a sad indictment of policy failure that has meant over 100k people, so far, have lost their lives, 10 months into a pandemic and the situation remains critical every egg is in the vaccination basket and a return to a tiering system that has inherently failed when it has previously being introduced. There is no defence for the way that Johnson has handled this situation, mistake after mistake, propped up by a Brexit blinded fan club who are totally oblivious to the limitations of their bumbling poster boy, blaming the behavior of individuals when every metric points to the majority following government guidelines that have proven to be flawed. I'm sad and angry and how badly the people of this country have been mislead and left with avoidable grief for family and friends. There is no defence, there is no excuse, the Government have the blood of thousands on their hands and those excusing and mitigating their failures are, in part, culpable too.

What has surprised me is the number of deaths compared with hospital admissions. Deaths do occur in different locations, but, from the ONS data, most are in hospitals in this second wave. With a 3 week time lag between deaths and admissions, the ratio of 7 day averages of deaths/hospital admissions are shown below.

In the first wave, there were larger care home death numbers, so you'd expect the ratio to be higher earlier on, but, even with the new treatments that have been discovered, we seem to be suffering more in the second wave. There are clearly many variables not covered by this simple representation but it isn't what I expected to see. Hospital admissions are about 30% higher now than three weeks ago so this doesn't bode too well for the coming weeks.

Bear, I wanted to like but not like this (if that makes sense). The no. of deaths vs hospital admissions is something that I find tragic as we now have treatments available to prolong life, I'm surprised not more is made of it (unless it is and I have just missed it).

It could be hospitals overwhelmed, age / vulnerability of admissions, the new variant isn't the same as the old. I guess it will be being looked at but they won't say anything till they're sure. They made a lot of how things improved in June. I'm sure they're worried.

Looks like this new variant is more lethal. 30-40% according to Vallance. Hospitals believe no difference in outcome to one study suggesting 91% increase is the range of views.
