1,610 UK Covid deaths reported today

Last two days have been a bit lower so maybes some late reporting?

Still a frightening number!

So many sh*t decisions that have got us to this point. It's infuriating to think that all this failure probably won't even have any sort of repercussions for the tories.

Sundays and Mondays are always much lower, and therefore Tuesdays are always the highest. This number is up on last Tuesday though.

Huge death numbers were inevitable, we were getting 60,000+ people testing positive every single day, with the hospitals overloaded, and I expect that's not the last time the record death toll will be broken.

We'll be on over 100,000 official deaths by next week, awful.

Cases are down a bit now though, that will be reflected in the death toll soon I'm sure.

People tested positive today (and last two days before) in the 30 odd thousand range.

Trying to look on the bright side new cases are falling (down 22% on the last seven days) and the rate of patients admitted to hospital is now slowing down ( up 3.6% last seven days) and the 7 day average is staring to trend down.

Yes , these are people's loved ones, not just statistics and numbers, think of all the families and friends mourning the deaths of their loved ones.
Absolutely heartbreaking, people of this country must take heed and 100% follow rules and guidelines.
We are in a terrible state, transmissions seem to be reducing, that's the hope plus vaccinations.
My heart goes out to all families who are mourning, not only covid deaths but all other aspects of health.
So sad.

The hospital patient numbers are still almost double what they were in the Spring peak and also care home deaths have increased by 46% in the last week and are at levels last seen in mid-May. Hopefully care home vaccinations start having an affect sooner rather than later.

As were Sunday and Monday's figures on the previous week.
The 7 day average mortality is still going up, though the rate on new cases is falling now. We'd expect the trend in mortality to lag behind the trend in new cases, yes?
