“No to ghost games”

I watched a game highlighted on the news last night and it was a bit weird. Sport is very much like any group event. The emotional part of the event is communicated and amplified by the crowd. Without that, it's like sitting in a 2,000 seater arena on your own watching Jimmy Carr. You just wouldn't laugh as much.

Need to think outside the box here. The solution here is to install a decent spec movable camera, mike and speaker on every seat in a stadium. Fans buy a seat as per normal then just go online to watch the match but they can now interact. Shout, look around, co-ordinate to sing songs. Maybe get a full scale remote control robot dressed as a mascot that they can take turns in controlling.

The future beckons.

the fans I have empathy with are those who 'never miss a match' and have attendance runs going back season after season, regardless of the club or country they are in and a fan of, they must be gutted at games being played and they aren't there. (unlike cov19 losses, its not the end of the world for them, but a sad/tragic reason for their attendance run to end)

I see that theres a club in germany and for 18euros you can have a card board cut out of you in your seat !!

supporting the club, safely

Dunno. That sounds creepy. Thousands of fixed, silent staring faces. Plus not very green is it? Lot of wood. Iisuppose Arsenal got there first years ago when they were demolishing Highbury.

I understand all the arguments against but it will be months if not years before fans are allowed back in stadia. The entire game could collapse around us if we just say “I’d rather have nothing at all than games behind closed doors (when safe)”. Clubs will fold if no TV revenue (or revenue of any kind).

Surely we all want there to be something that resembles what we had before, after? Or are we saying we just want the professional game to collapse and disappear other than the handful of clubs that are so wealthy they can probably afford to pick up where they left off?

Can you remember the original mural that used then thought ah!

a club with huge BAME fan base and yet the mural was like a pic at Nigel farrage birthday party

I don't understand the arguments against it at all. Let's deny ourselves any semblance of joy, dig a hole and crawl into it for three years by which time they will have hopefully found an antidote. Germany has people who complain like every other country. I'd imagine they would be outnumbered by those happy to have some entertainment back in their lives. I'm sure you'll just gloss over their views.

The new rules seem to be bizarre. 2m gap between subs sat in individual chairs. But a free kick can be defended with the traditional wall?

Doesn't a football count as a surface that the virus can live on? If so why is heading the ball allowed or why is the ball even allowed to leave the ground?

Why don't the players wear a mask whilst playing seen as though everybody else in the ground is wearing one?

I'd be interested to see what sort of insurance cover these players have now.

Whats wrong with just waiting, like every other industry has to do, until it is safe to have supporters in the stadium and then finish the season? There may have to be 2 games per week for the foreseeable until the calendar gets caught up, but so be it, I’m sure the clubs will cope with playing football.

Waiting is fine. But are you willing to wait so long that a number of clubs fold and the pyramid collapses? All I’m saying is that playing behind closed doors might be the only option, as long as it’s safe to do that.

It could be literally years before large crowds are permitted again. I watched Dortmund yesterday and quite enjoyed it, even without fans.

I understand it in so far as football is better with fans in the ground. But in the absence of full normality I’m happy to make a bit of a compromise. I don’t understand the idea that it has to be *exactly* how it always was or it isn’t worth bothering with and we might as well just watch it die.

Surely suspending football until fans are allowed back helps the smaller clubs as they don't have to pay running costs without any turnstile income?

TV only football will only work at a level where broadcasters can get subscriptions, ie: first and in some cases second tier in the big European Leagues.

They still have to pay players wages though?

If fans aren’t allowed to games I’m sure they’ll be willing to pay to stream matches, ifollow etc.
