“Managed” or gradual decline

I though carrick did well in looking for options today particularly using the likes Hackney over some bigger names.

But looking at that squad today and all you do is wonder how we have got to this state and it’s simply been managed decline losing skilful promising players and not replacing them.

Sad really that we have got to this state.

He simply MUST be backed on January.

Nah, it’s not been a managed decline.

Mismanaged decline perhaps!

Wilder built momentum off Warnock’s squad.. then ripped the heat out of the team and threw a settled defence in the bin.

Unfortunately we are in the position of Carrick working with Warnock/Wilders squad which, sadly, has been assembled as a big steaming turd.

We have no leaders. No shouters. No on field General B*stard to scare the players. Weak as p*ss in every department.

It's a worry, and Carrick has a big job on just to steady the ship, never mind getting it to port.

😳😳

But that’s not the ‘model’ is it? If we’re going to sign anyone it’ll be young players with potential resale value in the future identified by the recruitment team.

When you look for a solid core of our squad who could be here for years and build the foundation for a promotion push who do we actually have? Fry? Possibly Dijksteel and Jones at a push. That’s very concerning for me

More concerning is sellable assets, it’s likely only Fry that would be worth over £10 million. The squad has slowly been stripped and replaced on the cheap. We clearly don’t have the money to replace any of these players either so it feels like a slow decline that will be impossible to reverse

Short term we will have to loan some older, experienced players to ensure we stay in the Championship. Then look at the big picture in the summer.

It will be an even bigger rebuild job next summer. Steffen, Giles, Mowatt and Muniz will all return to their clubs. I think we will sell Jones in January to be honest. Howson will surely need replacing - he can't go on forever.

If we manage to stay up this season is anybody really confident we'll be able to assemble a squad capable of challenging for promotion next season, especially if we're to continue making "project" signings.

You are better than those comments Jedi!

I know it's frustrating. Not sticking with managers, the chop and change of both the coaches and the players. Clearly something needs to change, but it's probably mor in the leadership and how they pick the team management.

There is no such thing in football as managed decline, unless, of course, Gibson is looking to write off millions.

I can’t see anyone touching Jones for decent money, far too inconsistent to justify anyone paying decent money.

Yes that’s been my point for ages with the loan players every year, it’s no wonder we miss out on players when we go into a season needing to sign so many replacements.

How many squads at this level will need to replace 5/6 starters this summer? It’s exactly the reason why we are struggling now and it’s only going to get worse for us

Gibson is clearly happy to do things on the cheap provided it keeps us in the championship. I would have thought that was obvious for a long time now

"On the cheap" is right.

Carrick’s appointment does not need to be horrendous.

He needs accomplished coaches around him.

I’m still hopeful we will see incoming but not convinced……

I agree he does need help, so far the coach he’s been given is Woodgate…
