£375 for a three bedroomed detached house.

My first house cost me £32k in 1986 (2 bed terraced). I’m still bemused that I’ve just paid half a million for a four bed detached, albeit with a half acre garden...

There was a house a few years back in Whinney Banks for £750

My grandparents sold their terraced house in South Bank for £100 I believe around 1952 and they successfully bid £1050 for 1930s house in Saltburn around 1948, but changed their minds.

Prices in most of the SE have risen at least twice as fast as Teesside area - I used to think London was double Teessde prices in the 1970s now its around 4.5 times.

when I first moved to London in the mid 1990's i rented a flat with a mate in Forest Hill, its not great and not on the tube but it did us, decent sized and 2 bedrooms. When we moved out I noticed the flat next door was up for sale for £35k. I though about buying it but decided i didnt wanna live in that area. Same flat is now valued at £325k. If Id bought it I would have been living mortgage free for the last 20 years
