£20 million fine between the 6 clubs.

Here is the full statement - it appears they didn't break any rules but at least those rules are now being changed.... at least.. I wonder how fans will gain from this money?

Premier League and The FA joint statement

The six clubs involved in proposals to form a European Super League have today acknowledged once again that their actions were a mistake, and have reconfirmed their commitment to the Premier League and the future of the English game.

They have wholeheartedly apologised to their fans, fellow clubs, the Premier League and The FA.

As a gesture of goodwill, the clubs have collectively agreed to make a contribution of £22 million which will go towards the good of the game, including new investment in support for fans, grassroots football and community programmes.

Furthermore, the clubs have agreed to support rule changes so that any similar actions in the future would lead to a 30 point deduction. Each of the six clubs, in that event, would also be subject to an additional £25 million fine.

The Premier League and The FA have worked closely together throughout this process and this agreement brings both investigations into the matter to a conclusion.

Just means that next six players sold(1 by each team) will cost the around three and three quater million pounds more to the buyer.

How would a 30 point deduction penalise you if you left the ‘pyramid’ altogether??

I get what you are saying, but when they originally announced this farcical European Super League the clubs arrogantly assumed they could still be part of the Premier League and the Euro League at the same time. Simply playing the Euro League midweek whilst they continued to have their regular Premier League games on a weekend.

I suppose in theory they were more resigning from the Champions League format in favour of a closed shop league that would always guarantee them a fat wedge of cash every year irrespective of their league performance. So the 30 point penalty essentially deters against them trying the same thing again.

Biggest disappointment for me about the whole episode was the Champions League reforms which came out shortly afterwards and were lost under the noise of the back slapping of preventing the super league. One of the reforms states "The final two places will go to the clubs with the highest club coefficient over the last five years that have not qualified for the Champions League group stage but have qualified either for the Champions League qualification phase, the Europa League or the Europa Conference League".

Essentially this gives a couple of the biggest clubs who just miss out on qualification for the Champions League the right to sneak through into the competition under the crack in the door, which is just wrong. If I'm reading the rules correctly in theory a side finishing lower down the league in a UEFA Conference League spot could leapfrog the other teams and bypass other European Competitions to go directly into the money spinning Champions League. Things like that stink, it's those with the most money/power rigging the game to ensure they'll always have the most money/power.

Ok its started with just two positions throughout Europe that this applies to, but now there's an 'in', I doubt it'll be long before the parameters gradually creep so that eventually the biggest clubs will have their place in a lucrative Euro League guaranteed through stealth.
