The Last Manager to lead Boro to Wembley?

On TalkSport this morning. They were discussing whether it was Bryan Robson or Steve McClaren, and they decided it must be McClaren. Wrong!! It was Cardiff in 2004, not Wembley, and in any case Aitor took us to Wembley for the play-offs.in around 2015. Hopefully the correct answer will soon be...

    West Brom fans

I didn’t hear a peep out of them all afternoon. Normally they have a good away following. Plenty of them there, but didn’t contribute anything to the atmosphere.

Radio Tees, after-match comments from listeners

Some particularly ridiculous comments made today ….”we are in a relegation fight now”….”time to get Mogga in” …. “embarrassing “ … “just not trying”. I am not sure if they saw the match, listened to it, or just saw the score. Probably the latter.

    Ref Watch

I thought that the ref last night was one of the better ones. He ignored Preston players rolling on the ground when they were tackled and was very sparing with the yellow cards. Got most decisions right, and let the game flow well.

Saturday - England v South Africa

World Champions playing in both Cricket and Rugby. Both massive games. And in between we have Boro v Brum. What a sporting day!

Rugby World Cup: Argies v Taffs

Despite my reservations this was a great game to watch. Maybe England not so bad after all?

What happened to Phil Stamp thread?

You know…Fry and McGree both dropped?

    Amazing Atmosphere at the end

Really good atmosphere today, as the crowd reacted positively to a good performance. In the West Upper there was constant clapping as we held the ball at the NW corner flag. It is a long time since there has been such SUPPORT from those around me. (Apart from 3 people who left after 2 mins of...

Losing our 1st game of the season at home

I can’t remember the last time this has happened? I know we lost to Spurs in the old First Division and ended up getting relegated, but that was a long time ago. Has it happened since then?

Why Jones not in Match day Squad?

I know that Carrick was asked this in yesterday’s press conference, but was not very convinced by his reply that it reflected more on the good players in the squad. I would have thought that Jones would be ideal to come on as a sub if we are chasing a game, with his pace against tiring...

    In Barbados with Sky No-Go

Not looking for sympathy, with palm trees and lovely blue sea outside the hotel room balcony at 30°, but wondering if a VPN like Nord would work from hotel wi-fi. Anyone tried recently, please? Failing that , there may be a dodgy stream that I can try.

    Half Time Reception

I was half expecting some boos, but pleased that the team got clapped off the pitch at half time today. I think it shows how the atmosphere has changed for the better in the last 5 months.

    Team for tonight?

I think that this is a game for Fry, rather than McNair, because there will be a lot of crosses in our box. Assuming Archer is fit, then I would start Barlaser and Hackney in midfield and rest Howson. if Archer has not recovered from Saturday, then Crooks for me as he offers more physical...

    Middlesbrough’s Chicken Balti Pies

Just got a favourable mention on BBC Sports App coverage of Blackburn v Wigan.

What final position would you take now?

I would be very happy to finish 3rd or 4th. It would give us a home 2nd leg in play-offs. I think that there's still a slim chance we could catch Sheff Utd if we beat them at their place, but would take 4th now. When Carrick took over I didn't expect us to be in such a good position - he has...

Should we appeal the red card?

Warnock had a good record of appealing red cards against us, including Traore at SoS, and the more I see it I don‘t think that it is a red card foul. Worth a shout, with Watford game next weekend.

    Good game to watch

I really enjoyed the game today. Five cracking goals, no time wasting by either team, and helped by a ref who didn’t blow his whistle for fair but physical tackles. The hat-trick was the icing on the Christmas cake!

    My Fanzine arrived today

At first I was well impressed - a whole week before the Wigan game! - and then I saw “Luton Town”. That game seems a long time ago! Good job that Rob splashed out on a 1st class stamp, otherwise it would have come in 2023😩

The ball boys are now great, but . . . .

We are shocking at taking throw-ins and have been all season - often the ball is just given straight back to the opposition. I don’t particularly blame the taker, it is more other players not moving to make space to receive the ball. Yet when we concede throw-ins we stand back and let them throw...
