Zone of interest - bafta nominated

You might like to read the late (great) Martin Amis's book on which the film was based; also called The Zone of Interest (2014). No real danger of spoilers as the it's not the plot but the premise (proximity of normal family life and the horrors of the camp) which drives the novel

    Banning the Palestinian flag

Of course it's complex, but the next time you hear an Israeli politician or commentator rant about the barbarism, horror and utter inexcusable acts of killing children, bear this in mind: www.countingthekids.org (apologies if this has already been posted on one of the other threads on this issue)

    Boro before Arsenal

Don't think he'd go that far - but watch out for his articles, you never know! As for the name check, just happy to have added an atom or two's recognition of Boro in the higher echelons of the commentariat

    Boro before Arsenal

Mr. Ronay did indeed take the time to write back, munch a bit of humble pie and describe Boro's feat as actually pretty amazing. No promise of Boro articles, but classy all the same.

    Boro before Arsenal

Yup - just told him to write a few articles about Boro to atone for his oversight.

    Boro before Arsenal

Barney Ronay in the Guardian about Arsenal‘s goal yesterday: This was a goal made and scored at the end of a move involving all four of Arteta’s second-half substitutes, something that has perhaps never happened before in any football match A day and a half earlier: Rogers (67) sweeps the ball...

    Yusuf- you Media whore!

The only time in my life I've simply gone to the Lufthansa desk at Frankfurt Airport and said "Return to London please" was on the morning of our Zenith Data Systems Semi final second leg against Villa. Was it financial madness - it cost about half a month's pay - of course. Do I regret it? Of...

    Opera

Yes, already identified her - not a lot of geboren in Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire in the Staatsoper ;-). I'll drop her a line when I'm in Stuttgart and see if she's up for a coffee and a natter about the state of of Riverside affairs. All the best.

    Opera

Bayern plucking Münich?!? Yer joking aren't ya? Boro sticker for a long time on the last car, but nothing now. If I was the sticker type, more likely to have a SV Sandhausen one - my local 2nd division team - perennial relegation flirts but somehow manage to stay up season after season.

    Opera

Very prestigious - good on her. I'm working in a different theatre in Stuttgart twice next season, so might look her up. As long you don't think that's creepy.

    Opera

Wonderful. Where does she work? I'm also active in German theatre, though more on the drama than the opera side. Nevertheless as many theatres have opera and drama companies (and ballet companies and youth/kids' theatre companies - see what happens if you support the arts properly?) we may have...

    PMQs 13/7

True; but I was assuming a question supposes an answer. And you're absolutely right about the shortcomings of HoC procedures - how often in debates do you see an MP desperate to come back to challenge a pathetic excuse for an answer or call out a lie or half truth, only to see the "debate" move on

    PMQs 13/7

Spot on I'm afraid: I watch PMQs regularly and am struggling to remember a single occasion when Johnson actually answered a question. Instead he's allowed to spout his usual stream of no-self-consciousness gibberish. If the speaker can't remind him of and hold him to the purpose of Prime...

If you don't live on Teesside, who is your local team and do you go and watch them?

Sandhausen in the German 2nd Division. Go along and watch them in their perennial fight against relegation a few times a season. So much more relaxing than the emotional shredding Boro always put you through. But of course not the same highs either.

    Great lyrics of our time

From the much underrated Steve Forbert: You've traveled so far The wind in your face You're thinking you've found The one special place Where all your dreams Will walk out in line And follow the course You've made in your mind Hey, it isn't gonna be that way It isn't gonna be, that way I came...

    Germany holiday advice

Too right. Don't get me started on the different levels of funding for the Arts in GB and Germany. Though it is a long, complex and fascinating story.

    Germany holiday advice

I've worked in Regensburg on several occasions and it really is a beautiful place: impressive historic buildings (check out the Cathedral), winding streets, not unlike the Shambles in York, with small independent shops and a wide selection of excellent restaurants ranging from classic German...

Boro Donate Gate Receipts To Ukraine.

I join the chorus of "Never been prouder of my club". Just fantastic. I'll watch the match tomorrow seeing it as an advert for who we are and what we stand for, not worrying about the result. Unless of course we're 1-0 up with ten minutes to go ;) Thank you Mr. Gibson.
