YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

It's not only about policy but without policy there's not a lot of politicking to be done. At some point you have to make a decision to do x or y, where x and y are incompatible with each other. I'm sure you could just wing it but you'd end up just following the loudest voices if your only...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

I can't speak for anyone else, but my main criticism of Starmer is that he is a politician who explicitly doesn't do politics. It's exclusively about image. There is no policy, ergo there is no politics. He's distanced himself from just about everything he's ever promised. The Labour party is...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

The former is largely to do with the Tories and where the nation is. Corbyn was 'unlucky' to take over just in time for Brexit. Starmer was 'lucky' be heading into an election after 15 years of the worst government in living memory. Some of it is down to Starmer being seen as a...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

No. That's not how it works politically. Otherwise you could quite reasonably argue that no opposition party ever caused a U-turn. Keeping the weight of public opinion focused on an issue is what counts. Which is where Corbyn was good and Starmer is appaling - energy, water, food inflation etc...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

This, in spades. Was worth the repetition. All this super-serious don't-rock-the-boat middle-manager posturing is just a massive uninspiring turn-off. Blair had charisma. Starmer has none. You have to take people along with you. But power for the sake of power is the order of the day and we'll...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

Fully agree but I'm not sure how that was Corbyn's fault. Labour members were majority remain., Corbyn's constituency was majority remain. There's not much else he had sway over when compared with everyone else involved. Apparently he went to 21 venues, at least, to speak in favour of remain...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

So why do you think the U- turns happened if Labour (under Corbyn) weren't responsible and the disaffected Tories weren't responsible either? I'm not sure where you think the U- turns came from. Maybe the Tories just care more than we think they do..?

You did. Obviously... No, but I'm now suggesting that you haven't read the EHRC report. Brexit deal vote u-turn Brexit impact assessment u-turn European Court of Human Rights u-turn Dementia Tax u-turn (unprecedentedly dropped from the manifesto before the GE) Pensions triple lock u-turn...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

Which government policies did disillusioned Tory MPs force a U-turn on? I don't recall that at all - mainly because it didn't happen. The size of the majority doesn't really matter. The Tories could have forced through anything with a small majority but it's the pressure that's applied via...

So Labour CAN effect change from the opposition benches? As U-turns go, that was pretty swift...

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

This is nonsense. Our system of government is based on there being an opposition in the Commons and checks/balances in the Lords. The narrative that the opposition just has to sit and wait until they get a turn at 'power' is VERY recent. The idea that the Tories might steal policies/ideas and...

Iran launches military drones at Israel

Exactly. So the advance warning was essentially Iran deliberately scuppering it's own assault. Any escalation from Israel needs to be viewed in light of that fact.

Iran launches military drones at Israel

But this is largely due to it not being a surprise attack. Israel and allies had 72 hours to prepare (on top of the fact they were readying for some sort of attack anyway). Iran was acting to save face, basically. They had to do something in response to the attack on their consulate in...

Iran launches military drones at Israel

Now that we know Iran gave 72 hours notice, any retaliation from Israel that doesn't come with a similar warning should be met with an arms embargo. The UK making sure Israel maintains it's right to exist is one thing, but supporting attacks on other countries is a step too far, in my opinion.

Iran launches military drones at Israel

I'm happy to condemn the attacks by Hamas in October. Do you condemn the attacks by Israel in the months leading up to Oct 7th that saw hundreds of Palestinans murdered? A simple yes or no, nothing else. Do you think Israel were entitled to retaliate after Oct 7th? A simple yes or no...

Starmer is a lying rat/Corbyn was chuffing useless - discuss

It's not that simple at all. Labour were going to lose a huge chunk of seats by aligning with either Leave or Remain. They proposed a solution based on how the referendum had originally been sold. The media (and parts of the PLP) were happy to spread the narrative that this was a complicated...

Starmer is a lying rat/Corbyn was chuffing useless - discuss

I can agree with all of this but the point still remains, in retrospect what should they have done differently that wouldn't have alienated another large chunk of the potential Labour vote. Would keeping the 'red wall' but losing the remain vote of London, Manchester etc. have made a Labour...

Isn't this a kind of match fixing?

It's missing context though. It appears as though he had an ongoing rapport with Wright and there was obviously some reason he wasn't giving the 'fouls'. I'm guessing Wright was going down like a sack-of-shyte and the ref decided to give the opposition the benefit of the doubt. Wright was a...
