Ombudsman finds that WASPI women are owed compensation...

Some said that they made lifestyle choices on the basis of a pension at 60. So if they took early retirement at 55 they calculated they had enough private means to last them until the pension came in. It came as a shock somewhere along the line to find out that they were not going to get a...

Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes - Going Home

Saw Albert Lee on Tuesday night at a small venue outside of Cardiff. He told some anecdotes about being fired by Eric Clapton. They were good mates now and that he'd be seeing him on Saturday at a lunch for Mark Knoffler's new single. Interesting to see that in the ensemble pic, Albert stands...

    Calum Kavanagh

I watched him a lot last year at Newport and he didn't set the place on fire. You could see loanees that 'had it' when they were at The County, like Mc Burnie, Conor Washington, Ben White, Scott Twine and Antoine Semenyo. Kav tried but always seemed to struggle

Mark Drakeford resigns with immediate effect

Well he leaves behind the worst healthcare system in the UK, the poorest education system and a transport system that is a joke. If this is doing well - I'd hate to see what a bad job would have been! All while getting more per head of population than England. He was a master of doing more with...

Is Boro’s new Hokey digital e-ticketing system fixing a problem that didn’t exist?

Have you heard of the Carrington Solar Flare? Wiped out the technology that existed at the time. Fortunately it was at an early stage, but it crippled communication in the US and Europe. A couple of hundred years later and the impact would be devastating. Gotta laugh!

The best thing about growing up in Teesside was …..

The bus ride from Billingham to Middlesbrough through the ICI works. The magnificent Newport Bridge. Time stood still as you watched the roadway lift towards the sky. Never seemed quite so dramatic coming back from Middlesbrough. Ayresome Park on a night match in the 60s. The red of the Boro...

Advice from Luthiers or guitar repair enthusiasts.

Bridge - look at you tube for rosa string works, tim woodford or the house that never sleeps for tips. Great woodworkers. Using an iron and a thin scraper you should be able to shift the bridge. Putting a new one will need a lot of long span clamps. These guys use three and they cost about £75...

    Kav on loan to Newport

I was down at Rodney parade on Saturday (smoggy in exile!). Cav replaced a Man Utd youngster called Mc Neil who was struggling with the physical side of league 2, and his Utd showboat passes were dangerous. Cav linked well with Moriah-Welsh (another sub) and Aaron Lewis, who unselfishly played...

Anybody else not feeling the latest series of Peaky Blinders?

Did anyone realise it was the plot of "When the boat comes in"? All they had to do was to change "Why Jack man, you canna do that!" to "Where's Tommy?" Should have a prize for the slowest drive-by shooting in history! Mafia gangsters in a hay cart pulled by a shire horse! Hilarious. Made those...

    Annoyingly difficult "easy" jobs

Dripping taps used to be fixed with a little rubber washer. Now they have ceramic cartridges that costs 50X more but are supposed to be easy to swap over. That is until you try and do it! I think monobloc mixer taps have the lock nut welded into place at the factory!

Very sad news for folk music fans

We've been trying to get Martin back into our folk club in South Wales for one last time, but due to Covid and issues back home he's postponed three times. His online concert has been put back many times as well. All things come to an end I guess.

This day 1967 - Bill Gates

Surprised he only scored 12 goals. I seem to remember him scoring twice in the same match - memory isn't what it was!

New folk club opening in Boro this Friday

Good luck with the club and hope you have a good first night. I'm a Teessider in exile down in South Wales, but keep the flag flying for Graeme in some of the folk clubs there with 'Yarm Fair'. All the best!!

    Hacksaw Ridge

It was a song about a chancer from South Shields called John Kirkpatrick. Not a very accurate account of what went on, although the guy did exist and take part in the horror of Gallipoli. The song says he is depicted in a statue on South Shields sea front. Artistic licence - its in front of...

    Peaky Blinders, absolutely love it

Got to have a prize for the slowest ever drive by shooting! From a hay cart! Poor Michael didn't have a gun - he just pointed his fingers at the Gangsters and went, Bang!". Fair play he got one and winged another.

    Wales coming to the end...

Numbers of cases rising rapidly in South East Wales. Going from local county borough restrictions to National 'firebreak' hasn't kept the numbers down. The hotspots are still there and the rest of the boroughs are catching up.
