Pick your Boro 11 made of full internationals but…

This is about the best players for each position. Woodgate was a better centre half than Southgate.

Pick your Boro 11 made of full internationals but…

Not really. Woodgate when fit was a better player.

Pick your Boro 11 made of full internationals but…

…only one player per nationaility. No under 21s or B teams, only full internationals. Here’s mine: Given Ziege Woodgate Pogatetz Geremi Souness Mendieta Boateng Juninho Boksic Viduka

Good players we have let go and regretted.

Rochemback. Never made any sense to me to buy a player in Alves that thrived on those through balls in the channel. Almost all his goals in Holland came that way. Our only other supply line was Downing’s crosses and I hadn’t seen Alves score from a cross.

    O’Brien

I think he might be colour blind.

How can that not be a penalty?

Careless isn't a part of the offence I think was committed but do you mean the one where Foden hits the bar?

How can that not be a penalty?

Yes - I have out of necessity! I am genuinely surprised that people don't think this is a penalty and so was pretty incredulous to be honest. That view has softened with the evidence in front of me that there is seemingly a 50/50 split. Who#d be a ref?

How can that not be a penalty?

I don't agree. In my view it is really clear cut. I just accept that others have different views.

How can that not be a penalty?

I was not saying that my interpretation was a fact. Rather that there are facts here to which the law is applied. The argument put forward was that there were no facts, which isn't true.

How can that not be a penalty?

Interesting. Thanks for the chat. I enjoyed it. We will just have to agree to disagree I think.

How can that not be a penalty?

You said there were no facts here. That is untrue. You implied that you didn’t believe that I had been a referee for as long as I have in order to score a cheap point and to belittle. I’m not interested in talking to people that do that.

How can that not be a penalty?

So your assertion is that having a foot raised to chest height does not threaten injury? Or at least only threatens injury if it is raised in a certain way?

How can that not be a penalty?

Disagreeing with something doesn't render it any less factual. Some people think the world is flat :) Just kidding. People are entitled to whatever opinion they like but this is just so clear to me as a question of fact. The guidance to referees says this: "Playing in a dangerous manner is...

How can that not be a penalty?

"If you've been reffing...." Why do people go on like this? Of course there are facts.

How can that not be a penalty?

I think I’ve heard it all now. It was Macallister’s fault? He was playing dangerously by having the audacity to challenge for the ball? You’ve given me a good laugh if nothing else.

How can that not be a penalty?

Wrong again. Playing in a dangerous manner is an offence that involves no contact. If there is contact it automatically becomes a direct free kick offence.
  17. B

How can that not be a penalty?

Ok, if you insist. But that’s not the offence anyway. Like I said above.
  18. B

How can that not be a penalty?

You’re wrong. It’s as simple as that. My language is perfectly precise. As I said above, you’re focussing on the wrong offence. But if you insist on talking about the offence of kicking an opponent then the question of whether it was reckless is irrelevant as to whether a penalty is awarded as...

How can that not be a penalty?

You’re wrong. An offence is committed when a player kicks an opponent carelessly, recklessly or with excessive force. Recklessness and intent are therefore irrelevant. The minimum standard to be awarded a direct free kick is carelessness. His foot is high and makes contact with an opponent’s...

How can that not be a penalty?

    Intent and recklessness completely irrelevant.
