What do you recon to the Rega Planar 1 ECO, an eco/recycled Planar 1, it can be had for £199. The Planar 1 gets cracking reviews, the Eco should sound just the same, seems like it might be better than the Pro-Ject turntables i have been looking at.

The phono preamp i was going to go for is the Pro-Ject Phono box E, it was recommended by the 2ndhandhifi.co.uk shop you mentioned, but i will have a look at the Zen as well now. The turntable is from them as well so will come with 3 month warranty. I didi think about asking them for a demo, but...

When you say cheap, how cheap do you mean. Will what i am looking at sound awful. The essential 3 gets cracking reviews.

I am now looking at getting a second hand Pro-Ject Essential 3 with Acrylic Platter and OM10 and a separate preamp. Anyone any experience of this set up, seems a good starter set up to me.

No, my HiFi is a Denon S-81DAB and doesn't have phono as far as i can tell. Do you have any experience with the Pro-Ject Primary E, it is very basic but has some good reviews on sound quality. Peter Tyson are doing the Phono version for £199, minus a tenner of for signing up to their news letter.

Thanks for all the info, i will take trip the the riverside store on Monday. The RT-81 is the same price on Amazon as the RT-80, would i be better of with the RT-81.

They only had one in store, the Denon DP-29F, but i don't fancy that one.
