    Taking one for the team

    It's cheating, but it's cheating that the rules of the game legislate for. Should the rules be different? Perhaps. But everyone going up in arms has knacked the sinbin idea that seems to be the reasonable middle ground here. Fake injuries and similar gamesmanship are a form of cheating taking...

    Taking one for the team

    Tbh, Clayton was one of the cleverest players I've ever seen at this and I appreciated him for it greatly. Tended to only do it when necessary. Ultimately under the rules as they are it's just a cost of doing business. Sam Greenwood on the other hand seems to take one for no good reason most...

    I think Carrick is on the brink

    I agree with this guy

    “We’re playing Middlesbrough next week just stay with the defender and wait for the ball/error to come “

    It has been increasingly evident even back to last season (when only a few teams set up to do it) that if you get the press on us right, we struggle to break it, and now teams are getting tighter on it it's forcing more errors from the poorer players currently having to start for us.

    I think Carrick is on the brink

    To be fair, our best performances in 2024 have largely come when Carrick has set aside his usual style for a more organised defensive approach, albeit more a 532. I don't like that system generally but we need to swallow some pride right now, keep things tighter and grind out some points however...

    O’Neil or Wilder

    O'Neil is one of my least favourite Boro players I have ever seen, I don't really feel he was an 'honest pro' and flattered to deceive even at Championship level. However as a manager at both Bournemouth and now Wolves he has come across as very capable and a class act. I have to admit as a...

    Glover = Not good enough

    Glover started quite well covering for Dieng but his weaknesses have been.well and truly exposed. On the ball, he will generally play the easiest most obvious ball, is predictable and plays us into pressure. Dieng has a much better feel for when to play out. Besides the Sunderland goal his...

    Was it a penalty?

    Silvera's was the kind of foul that should be given without player having to throw himself to the ground for it. He was pulled back clearly when potentially through on goal. Barlaser not so sure, he really should have just pulled the trigger.

    * The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Preston [02/24] Match-Day Thread *

    The January business was a clear surrender for this season, let's be honest.

    Partly because we just let them happen.

    Does Engel actually offer anything?

    I think if we had anything up front, he would have a decent assists return - not to Giles level, but something more productive. As it is he's a poor defender and we can't make anything of what he potentially could offer. If Thomas is more solid defensively (I don't really know) he should...

    Season over?

    Realistically the outcome of the transfer window was giving up on having a serious go this season, the performances and results are just catching up. We've had a torrid time with injuries etc but overall just haven't been up to it at points throughout the season really.

    3 at the back in the league??

    Although we didn't see it for long, I thought I saw that when both Bangura and Jones were on the pitch together they were pushed much higher than against Villa where it was one stay one go.

    Lisbon

    I was disappointed by the Time Out food hall. Expected something a bit more traditional but was more like one of the boxparks here. Lx Factory was a much cooler spot to visit IMO.

    Footballers who don't score often.

    We're conceding some preventable belters this season because of the defence backing off. I thought we'd got past that mostly since the first international break but Saturday was the same again. It's a screamer but we allowed him all the time needed to have a go.

    Sheff Wed fan sentenced for Bradley Lowery taunt

    I find it a very odd case to criminalise and a bit alarming that it was seen as worth the time and resources to prosecute, but obviously at the end of the day they've got a conviction so it's a "success". Yes he's an odious cretin and he's had his judgement in the court of public opinion...

    Rav Van Den Berg

    Rav IMO is clearly first choice RB until he is needed to step into CB then I expect he'll make that his own. A bit unfortunate for Dijksteel atm as he'd be getting his game otherwise but Rav just looks class and the playing time will be great for his development.
