    Tommy Conway….

Really pleased for Tommy. I've been critical on other threads, but the way he was asked to play today was much more traditional centre forward play and whether that's the manager showing his confidence in him or just something he saw in the opposition, it's just put him in better places to find...

Deliberately blocking players off at kick off

Posted this on the Sol Brynn thread about all the anti-football crap refs let go ATM. Needs to be a foul.

Yep - lots of anti-football played by certain teams and West Brom's new bloke looks another proponent. Refs happy to let certain teams kick you all over the pitch also. Whilst Hackney got away with what should have been a blatant red for his kick out v Blackburn, that came in the context of...

    West Brom pen claim..

To be fair to Sammy also - why is he, the right winger, the one having to defend centrally on the edge of our box. The CMs started to go walkies a bit as WBA got back into the game, which was even clearer in the build up to the second which Hackney's lunging touch from a bad position helped to...

I mean the ball was in play on the first one when he was fouled and it wasn't given and just reset, I don't even think VAR would deal with it unless he was actually fouled on the later one. Refs need to get a grip on this stuff though. The most egregious example this season was United being...

Speaking of, ref blew up one corner after it'd been already played in to give them a talking to about a foul on Morris (I think) then let them re-take it. This happens quite regularly and should obviously just be a free kick.

    Toothless up top.

Thierry was converted to a CF from being a LW and loved to drift into the left channel and use that space and his pace to terrifying defences. He wasn't a 'split striker' though (IMO), he'd typical play off another CF for Arsenal at his peak, particularly Bergkamp who was very creative for Henry...

    West Brom pen claim..

It was a clear penalty. We'd be furious if not given the other way. They scored anyway so on the day it didn't matter but yes it's a stroke of luck we didn't capitalise on. Our players closing the shot down (Whittaker and Conway) turn their backs on it rather than going in stronger which they...

    Sol brynn

Sol had one true flap that the commentators picked up on but I thought that was out of character for him and he dealt well with it otherwise. Their new manager is a set piece merchant and obviously set them up in a certain way to have a go at him.

Yes I've been thinking about this since Tommy started drifting wide. I recall it wasn't popular then either and did seem to limit McDonald, and it showed in his body language at times. It wasn't really Mowbray's usual "system" though as he didn't persist with it long term but he used it a lot...

    Malanda

See, I haven't seen anyone take him on directly, but like I say he got caught pushing up a few times tonight and when turned was definitely struggling to get back when they broke at speed in that situation.

    Malanda

He's been very good, I would say today's the first time I thought he got caught out being too aggressive up the pitch and they managed to turn him a few times, and he's not really that quick getting back. However those chances came to nothing and the goals weren't on him at all. But it's...

I don't understand why Conway is backpedaling out to the left every time the ball comes forward.

Castledine and Sarmiento, do we need both?

Burgzorg absolutely is quick, at least relatively to this team. He doesn't really use it enough at times. Slower than Burgzorg isn't necessarily slow - I would guess Hansen and Sène aren't quite as quick but I'd still consider them pacy at this level. Bangura yes clearly is rapid, but too much...

    * The Unofficial “Official” FA Cup [3rd Round] Fulham v Middlesbrough Match-Day Thread *

Other than that thing about the offside (point taken on the rule itself seeming a bit odd), I don't see much post-game discussion about the refereeing performance. Whilst there were no major decisions really to make it felt like yet another game not called down the middle for us. The ref let...

    Conway

I'm not sure I'm seeing much of the difference in yesterday's performance others are here. He's been getting good chances other games and been profligate with them also, I don't think there's much of a sign in more of the same. The Whittaker chance that he dragged across the 6 yard box also...

    Matt Targett

I like Targett and think he's been a decent signing but I don't rate him as highly as some on this thread clearly. He's got a cultured left foot and can pick a pass, but he's on the slower side and some of our attacks down the left break down with him not offering enough of an overlap or option...

I'm not sure Djed Spence ever made a senior appearance for Fulham but he was in their youths before we signed him.

    Alan Browne

It was clearly back 4 in the first half but then more of a hybrid in the second I think, Ayling and Malanda swapping places so Malanda sat as the middle of the three if viewed like that (Bowne Malanda Ayling) but Silvera was really advanced going forward if he was a wing back IMO.
