I hate the Championship. Find it a proper chore to watch unless we’re gunning for top 2. The football is awful to watch, average players churning between clubs, very little to get excited about other than its unpredictability. I hate us playing in this league.
Premier League is the main event...
Good read that Rob.
Maybe apart from when Notts County had Sven and Sol Campbell, or Newcastle’s Saudi trillionaire sheikover when they really thought they were going to sign Mbappe, I can’t think of a bigger white elephant in the history of football than what happened to Darlo.
Unbelievable the impact he’s made. Didn’t see that coming at all.
I admit, I always thought of him as a bit of a joke, the worst kind of academy production line modern midfielder: non-scoring, non-creating tippy tappy technical midfielder who always seemed more interested in being JLingz the...
I kept reading how Fulham were giving themselves a chance, Scott Parker an excellent young manager, and they've just lost four on the bounce just as the pressure ramps up to squeaky bum time.
Reminds me of our efforts to stay up, such a poor effort at crunch time.
And if you finish below...
Thanks very much. The mentality is so different when you only play for fun, it's hard to say.
I think if I nicked one in the Ashes, or handballed one off the line in the last minute it wouldn't bother me much. I'd think I'd got away with one, three full-time refs have missed it which is their...
That's massive. Amazing the losses that can still be made by clubs in the richest league in the world even though TV money was unaffected.
Summer transfer window spending and reality check contracts will be really interesting. Though I suspect you can't put the genie back in the bottle...
There's levels isn't there.
Thing is pro sports people are paid to win and it's been their full time job and 24/7 obsession for their whole lives. We've all met ex pros but it's hard to get your head around how psychotically competitive they must be.
I think they'll take every tiny little...
Ha! Yeah that's true. He's so skilled at it now though, you'd forget he was ever a footballer.
Very different character to your usual middle-aged ex pro. Thoughtful, genuinely witty. Really good at controlling the room with a light touch, gets the tone just right for the big live England...
Leeds United style 2-2-3-1-2:
Can't believe Raheem Sterling isn't in that team. Him, Rashford, Rice and Lingard off the bench if things are going horribly wrong against, say, Croatia
No Rashford, Sancho, Hendo, Arsenal kids? Can Mount do it in the middle in a two? I’d love and hate to be England manager atm.
Edit: Jesse “goal machine” Lingard? Bellingham!
Too many players, sure am forgetting a few 😁
Henderson’s a fantastic footballer. He can do the lot. People think he’s limited, but that’s their problem :D
Hard choices innit! There’s a great thread to be made of ‘Pick your best England team for Euro 2021’. I agree though, no way am leaving Grealish out.
Also not Boro but I really enjoyed the MOTD: Top 10s podcasts on the BBC.
Lineker is such a natural presenter / facilitator of these things, brilliant at sparking conversations, and some really entertaining stories and insights from top players.
Also hilarious to hear them all swear like dockers.
Hard to say actually, haven’t seen anything of Trippier this season - obviously he’s done brilliant to be top of the league, and Atletico don’t have passengers.
I’m not Kyle Walker’s biggest fan, but like someone said, consistent presence in the best defence in the league and Gareth loves him...
Great post, Perisic is an absolute nightmare.
But... which one would they rather track back against? Hazard vs TAA, they’d score 3 and we’d hopefully score more.
I’d defer to Gary Neville like, he knows a little bit about playing right back :D
