HMRC what a shít show

Was due a refund from HMRC - took me about a year to get it and like you say it’s half an hour to an hour to even speak to someone. Funny how they are not so forgiving - if it’s the other way around and you are late with your submissions or paying your tax then it’s a fine and interest added!
 
Just another example of what happens when you cut public services to the bone.

The mantra is it can all be rectified with 'efficiencies'. How efficient is HMRC now?
Ha ha, yes " efficiency savings".

Having experienced the austerity years as a senior manager in th public sector I can say that the cuts were devastating and yet there was still an entirely unrealistic expectation to still deliver the same level of service.
 
Use an app called WEQ4U

The app hangs up your call but keeps you in the phone lines queue and contacts you back when an agent answers. While your on hold and not connected to the call it doesn't use your mobiles inclusive minutes while your waiting.

I think it's because the people that make these decisions about austerity cuts judge everybody by their own standards.

They think well I know I don't actually do any work so I'm sure the service can run without those 5000 staff as I bet they don't do any work either.

They have absolutely zero idea of how the the country works.
 
HMRC, easy way to get them to act.

Never mind trying to call etc, just go straight into raising a complaint (on their website). Works every single time for me.

Just say you've tried to call numerous times, been cut off, had to end the call as you were at work etc etc etc and this does the trick. I've never been ars*y with them, so that may work too 👍

I also saw large parts of the services contracted out to the private sector who essentially cut 1 in 3 staff and provided a poorer overall service (whilst obviously making a profit too).
 
It is torture trying to phone and resolve issues over the phone these days you spend hours getting in touch then they will say send an email or something
 
30 mins in queue then cut off before spoken to. Its completely unacceptable
Almost the same happened to me last week…

they cocked my tax codes up after claiming I’d over paid and then telling me I’d underpaid after having the refund…

I rang and got cut off half way through the call… they didn’t ring me back and the fact the guy I was talking too was useless anyway, I half expected it to be cocked up even more…

I rang back and got a great woman who talked me through everything she was doing, all sorted…

can’t blame the worker though, I blame under resourcing and poor training…
 
in fairness it is no different to the private sector in terms of phone waits.

I'm trying to sort something through insurance and its a guaranteed 1 hour call each time.

I'd advice with nhs/ hmrc you access the complaints channels. there are usually more people paid to resolve those problems and will get through to the right place much quicker.

Call centres are made to be efficient for the provider rather than the recipient.
 
I've been trying to speak to my mortgage company for 4 days. I've inputted my account details on the keypad that many times that I now know it.

Absolutely ridiculous. It's all over £46.18 that they didn't add during the last interest rate hike. So although it's not classed as 'missed payment' or arrears they'd like it paid or I'll pay interest on it over the remainder of my term.

4 days of phoning 3-4 times a day. I've not spoke to anyone. Still not paid it😕

I thought sky were bad.
