5G

So sat in the rainbow center whilst the two girls have their swimming lessons. Recently upgraded my phone to the pixel 6a and it's got 5G coverage here. It's incredibly quick. Webpages load up instantly. Shame we can't get it in Great Ayton.

It's good, especially outside, but the problem now isn't speed, it's crap coverage indoors.

Higher frequencies give better bandwidth/ speeds, but the downside is the signals don't go through walls as well.

Loads of places would have been better off juicing up the lower frequency signals, and giving better coverage, as data was fast enough even with good 3G. No point having brilliant 5G if it doesn't work indoors.

I get 1 bar of 4g where I live, and only in one half of the house :(

isn't that what wi-fi and wi-fi calling is for?

We used go in The Buck at Great Ayton for a spot of lunch about 25 years ago when we lived in Middlesbrough. Don’t think they had broadband though.

I was getting 100mb download in the rainbow centre itself but the upload was like 0.08 mm b which didn't make sense

Come back soon. New menu starts on Saturday (bit of self promotion never harmed anybody 😉).

Phone line fibre broadband in the village. Actual fibre broadband is coming in the next few months apparently.

To be honest got a 5G phone a few months ago and haven‘t notice a lot of difference 🤷
Same experience. Regular browsing experience is no different as you would reasonably expect. Huge difference when using it for work to shift big data files including streaming of high res video.

When I first had a 5g phone, I was so amazed at the download speed, I kept running one of those online speed tests. Then my data suddenly ran out, and everything on my fone stopped working, which was pretty inconvenient as I was using my fone for maps & music on a long river walk thru east london. Cos it was such a fast download, the speed tests had wiped out my entire (& not inconsiderable) monthly allowance in a few minutes. wot a sad git.

I have to admit I've been 5g for over a year and don't see any real difference from 4g.

You could see what a massive upgrade 3g-4g was. Yet not convinced 4-5g is remotely as 'impressive'.

It's maybe just me. That or the 5g down here is guff 😂
