Well said Mark Drury

I don't follow the response to my comment? Of course results dipped but there's clearly an issue with the recruitment strategy when you end up with players the manager doesn't want.

I don't see this changing as it's an ongoing pattern

You mean he already knows the Burnley owners and thinks he could work well with them? A bit odd when he said we were a good fit for him. Obviously not as good a fit as we thought!

No apparently they sold him some vision at Sheffield snd he really bought it.

I agree it’s utter madness but that’s the link behind this.

There was interest in both sides in the Burnley job.

Direct quote.
Most of us knew it had to be true it but the usual sychofants on here tried to drown it out with Chris the best thing sliced bread spin.

Then the club are at fault for letting the situation carry on.
It’s really not the fault of the fans for believing the club/manager and backing them, when dealing with a load of rumour and gossip which 9 times out of 10 turns out to be complete bolloxx.
If a manager is sniffing around another club a few months into the job, you get rid. You don’t try to persevere and see if things will work out.

What’s to say Drury is right? I’m sure he does know more about what’s going on than most of us but he could also just have read the gossip and be talking now as if it’s fact.
If he was in the know and is subtly spilling some beans, then he’s made the club look like a bunch of rank amateurs for sticking by Wilder, and I doubt they’ll be happy about that.

The whole ALK thing and his like warm response spoke volumes.

BBC tees and the local media always carry the party line . Dont upset the club and risk access . When Drury made those comments before the game about Akpom , and the missing Hoppe , I knew then that he must have been primed with inside information .The record since Easter has been woeful . Looking back the Burnley incident was the begining of the end !

I'm not sure I agree re: the Burnley thing. Yes, we think "clear the air" talks were held but presumably Wilder agreed that he would wind it in going forward. If he'd openly suggested he's going to go after every available job, do we think he would lasted until the end of the meeting?

There is always a risk that managers will be looking for their next move, it's natural and a very good reason why contracts are in place between manager and club.

Do we really think he would have been sacked today for "looking elsewhere" if we were sat 3rd currently?

Hed been here less than 6 months and he courted Burnleys interest. That's down right disrespectful to the fans, club, chairman and the players. The players were never the same after he did it. Chris wilder is a mercenary cúnt

Even if they agreed to carry on after Burnley gate it must have rankled with Gibbo. He's never come across as someone who is happy to let anyone pull his strings. Probably didn't want to pull plug after 6 months so gave it another chance but the relationship must have been terminal as soon as that happened. Regardless we have had relegation form ever since so he had to go. It wasn't good enough whatever was happening in background.

Of course not, but if he hadn't shown interest in the Burnley job then I'm absolutely sure he still have a little more time here.

Loyalty is a two way street.

Which player or manager isn't? It's a career like any other, I'm sure we'd all be interested if another employer in our chosen industry came along offering better prospects and more money?

The drop off in performances around that time is interesting though - had the players been made aware that Wilder wanted to leave? Did his effort/style noticeably change? We'll never know but I've not seen it happen to such an extent before.
