Played for Lecester. Amazed he played for England, though, and I remember watching that game live on the telly.Stephen Whitworth? I'll have to Google that name.
Assuming everyone is the same ageEnd of thread for me.
You beat me to it Souness and Frank W. Absolutely loved both as a kid. Worthington's autobiograhy is a bit of a chuckle. His brother Bob played briefly for us in the 60'sThe only foreign shirt I ever bought was an Ajax one. Cruyff was a fabulous player on another level at the time.
Souness at Boro. Frank Worthington a God.
Rivaldo. I absolutely adored him, he was so quick and played with a smile, could beat anyone and playing for Barca in that iconic kit. I had loads of spanish knock offs with his name on the back when i was growing up.
I went to Barca ground for a tour when i was about 10,11 and he was coming out of the ground onto a coach with the rest of the squad so i shouted him and he put his bags down to look round and wave my way, i'll never forget that. Some player.
My mate had a Shearer kit in school, the weird silky blue away one he was striker and adored him, still does now if someone scores a belter hes often heard shouting SHEARERRRRRR!We all had those knock-off Brazil/Barca kicks with Rivaldo 10 on that back . I even think I managed a Romario one in 1994.
Controversial but I adored Shearer as a young kid. When I found out he ate chicken and beans before a match, it was all I would eat before a game too!
Why have you have missed outPlatt, Craggs, Maddren, Souness, Murdoch, Armstrong.
Favourite non-Boro: Gordon Banks
It's obvously an age thing. Spike and Souness were my two favourite Boro players as well. I also used to watch Kempes 1980/81 when I lived in Valencia. He was incredibly cool - looked amazing and just strutted around the pitch. Made very little contribution until he was in the box. It might be my memory playing tricks but I recall that whenever I saw him get the ball in the box he scored. I don't think he would have had much truck with all of this modern forwards pressing and tracking back lark.Mario Kempes - International
