Italy on eve of electing first fascist govt since WW2

She's a right wing populist in the mould of our versions - Tories/ Farage and co - not real fascist imho. Was in Milan last month and was surprised to see the mosaic in the Central station of Mussolini and his fascist-saluting followers in still displayed

Hungary is run by fwhat most people would call fascists too.

I think the Italian fascists will stay in the EU, Italy gets too many freebies from the EU to leave.

yer jokin aren't ya?

As we have learned to our outrageously high cost, people certainly will cut their noses off to spite their face,

When you have self serving politicians who do little to help the average voter then people will eventually be attracted to these more extreme parties.

I wouldn't be surprised to see other countries eventually electing far right or far left government's. Struggling economies and disenfranchised voters are a breading ground for extremism.

Mussolini doesn't carry anything like the baggage of certain other Fascist dictators around at the same time. A chunk of voters in Italy see him in a positive light or at least certain aspects of his reign. A bit worrying but that's the way it is.

Yes You can openly buy busts of Mussolini in motorway service stations in Italy.

History certainly seem to have been a lot kinder to Il Duce than his axis contemporaries

We've already elected a far right government. Well before Sweden and Italy. It's just our media will call it what it is abroad, but not at home.

Rwanda immigration policy
Lefty lawyers
Human Rights bills
Union restrictions
Anti EU rhetoric
Removal of the right to protest
War on woke

It's here and now. In the Uk

. The lessons of Hitler’s rise to power between 1918 and 1932 taught us that people with little hope cling on to messages to attain the thought of a better future. People will be vulnerable to such promises.

Italians are like some football fans - 1940 Mussolini is hero god making Italy great again a new conquering Roman Emperor- by 1943 he is useless, and 1945 they kill him string him up upside down like a dead pig in a public square in Turin. Humans can be awful.

Sweden shocks me more though - they were so laid back and liberal - 15 years ago - now 7% are fascists wanting all non European immigrants out.
