Central Park Middlesbrough & Redcar

Is there a story behind this?

I assume at some point they were the same company but diverged? Redcar one is tiny whereas boro one is always getting some out or expanded. Menu at redcar one is very slimmed down but definitely "inspired by" the boro one (or vice versa?) - always been curious about it.

They're owned by the same family (brothers) who grew up in Berwick Hills. Another one of the brothers (who has since passed away) also used to own the old Lewis's restaurant that used to be on Linthorpe Road before closing. Oodles is now on that site.

I'm fairly certain they had a restaurant in Doncaster at one point too.

Interesting, thanks! Surprised they don't make more of the Redcar one seeing as the boro one always does well.

If the truth be told I think the Middlesbrough restaurant starting to go down hill. I've heard it being called 'the new europa' on a couple of occasions. I can't comment on the one in Redcar as I've never been.

The owners have done really well given that its probably the longest running and biggest restaurant in the town. I don't think its an easy industry to thrive in. The owners sons both work there so I would imagind it will be handed on to them but I think they definitely have to raise their standards to previous levels.

The owners sons are top lads.. I think Central Park will be here for a long time to come.

I've personally never had a bad plate of food in there.. but everything is subjective isn't it.

Must be doing something right, they've been going what, 30 years?

Must be nearly 40 yrs now I would think. Pretty sure it opened in the mid-80s

I agree mate. I think theres nothing wrong with the food but the last couple of times I've been in there's been lads (other customers) sat in there in vest tops and shorts. Maybe I'm getting a bit old. Im not saying everyone should be wearing tuxedo's and ball gowns but I think there should be a certain dress standard in a restaurant.

I feel like it's become more of a casual beer and a parmo venue rather than a nice restaurant. When I was a kid in the 90s, Central Park always felt more of a nice restaurant that we would go to for birthdays etc.

I would really only go there for lunch or a parmo and a pint with the lads these days rather than a date or for a special occasion.

Europa (!)
Blast from the past !
Great parmos when taken in there at 16 years old by my older brother after a nightclub….always packed at 2.30 in the morning!!!

Gone but never forgotten!!!

Who died? Jeff was the manager who had Lewis’s and back in the 90’s Terry who I presume is is his brother also worked there. Terry opened Central Park in Redcar after Lewis’s closed. I still say they do the best steak in the area. Certainly beats the steak at Tomahawk and the meat on offer at Rio.Certainly a business worth supporting.

Yes mate. Jeff and Terry were brothers. Sadly, Jeff passed away a few years ago.
He was a great bloke.

I am sorry to hear that. My wife and I were regulars in the mid 90s and we had a meal in Lewis’s before flying out on out honeymoon. We had a drink with Jeff at the end of the night and he just ripped the bill up. Such a kind gesture which has stuck with me for decades.

Its funny how small gestures touch people.
