We're not pressing teams like we were

When Wilder first came in, pressing teams was a key part of our play. It got us on the front foot and was good to watch. Look at the Tottenham game as an example, we were playing against a quality outfit but we didn't give them a second on the ball and were in their faces from the off.

This season I'm just not seeing it. Surely Wilder still wants us to play in this way? Have the players taken their foot off the gas?

We seemed to stop the press at the end of last season and playing more long balls. However, we are a much better team when pressing and pass out of defence, not sure why we changed

I said it at the time, and was mocked for it. But Aaron Connelly was very good at leading the press, yes he didn't do enough in front of goal, yes his confidence was shot and the last couple of appearances he dialled it in, but he definitely led the press better than anyone else at the club, Watmore was second at it but couldn't do it for as long or as well

Yes agree, we don't have the players, question is why?
If that's our preferred tactic then shouldn't the transfer window have addressed that?

I think the Chelsea game was a bit of a shock to the system. We pressed well but their quality players could just play through it and then we were all out of position and they were free to attack without resistance. I don't think we've been the same team since that game and I wonder if that's part of the reason.

It looks like we’re building a squad for a different system (4–2-3-1) could it be that Wilder has had his head turned and we fancy cashing in on a bit of compo?

Turned, it has been spinning ever since Burnley sacked Dyche.

Always admired Wilder‘s management from afar, since his Oxford days, but I didn’t appreciate the arrogance of the man until he came here. I suspect the team isn’t as together as he claims, in part because of his demeanour. I would love him to turn it around, but with a one paced midfield and his one dimensional playing style that we don’t have the players to be effective with it, especially in midfield.

As for the press, spot on, we seem to be happy to sit back and invite pressure because we have been caught out being too gung-ho when pressing high up and therein lies part of the problem.
